Another fraud-slop empire thrives -- in part because Google lets it thrive (and profits in the meantime): https://futurism.com/artificial-intelligence/brown-brothers-media-ai-slop-empire
If LLM usage is inevitable, then Bernie Sanders' proposal is a good thing; if LLM usage is a bubble, then the proposal is propping it up with tax payer dollars. https://mastodon.social/@inthesetimes/117289034913075961
It sounds like Bernie is drinking too much AI kool-aid, but I like rule 3, "AI does not increase electricity or utility prices, harm communities or destroy the environment.", which shpould kill LLM usage as marketed today.

This book of poems, stories, and essays draws together examples illustrating a mind immersed in Black legends and white myths, and in the growing realization of our place in the world and time, and in irresistible pull of the future: starships, floods, dancers twinned by crystal-filled caverns, and iridescent crops of living retribution.

“What kind of Software should we fund?”
https://tante.cc/2026/09/17/what-kind-of-software-should-we-fund/
Separately from what I’m responding to, Tante, though, does a good job of gleaning useful observations from the original post. Read this; don't read the original it's responding to
Giving the vibe-written ideas of an npm founder whose track record is such that, if they found the philosopher’s stone they’d use it to turn gold into lead, any airtime is probably not the most constructive use of anybody’s time
Esp. since said idea is basically “Spotify for OSS libraries”
Spotify being a model FAMOUS for paying artists a liveable wage…
Wait, no. It’s famous for the other thing. The opposite.
opened the iOS 27 mail app yesterday and discovered it had enabled intelligence priority inbox or whatever. Setting aside the fact that I don't get enough email to need it and whatever your feelings are about whether LLMs help with email. The fact that I now don't know for sure whether my phone sent my emails to some server somewhere without me enabling it is a very terrible experience for a "we're all about your personal privacy" company.
This is the first iOS I seriously consider rolling back

time to move UN from #murica if it can't do its job there...

this is also the kind of thing that a "malevolent" AI would do, which is the real future threat, not some abstract annihilation...

Dear Fedi friends,
I want to share a discovery that made my MONTH.
10 days ago, while I was putting together the slides for my presentation at Berlin #FediDay, I noticed a new entry in the @cercle directory (the Mastodon instance set up by the Service Numérique of the French Ministry of Culture):
✨ @MuseeOrsay ✨
Ouiiiiii!
Paris' super prestigious museum - that welcomed 7.3 million visitors last year - is now on the #Fediverse !!!🥳
Let's give Musée d'Orsay a warm welcome ❤️
