New records obtained by EFF reveal problems with a Medicare program that relies on private companies' AI systems to evaluate requests for medical care. https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2026/09/new-records-reveal-problems-medicares-ai-prior-authorization-experiment
Ultimately, Ring is the one managing this software and its implementation, and beyond a white paper, “trust us” is the only level of verification they’re offering outside observers. https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2026/09/cold-take-amazons-new-encryption-method-still-doesnt-deliver-real-privacy
@kawa @davidgerard 2 mathematicians were working on a problem called Navier Stokes. There's money to be won for solving it, proving or disproving. Those mathematicians were working on the problem in the fucking ChatGPT chat and gave it all their notes.
So OpenAI plagiarised their work and reached out to one mathematician to publish it jointly with (or just credit, I don't remember) that mathematician, but decline to mention the other mathematician because he works for Anthropic. The first mathematician said no. OpenAI threatened "Do you really want to ruin your career?" The mathematician replied "I am an academic" and published his statement about the events.
Fools, tools, and grifters internet-wide are claiming that ChatGPT solved the problem.

Fascists are coming for art, they're coming for labor, they're coming for queer people, disabled people, people of color, and everyone else they think they can hurt.
AI advances those goals by quite a bit, disempowering labor, undermining the creative potential of art, and normalizing language to make less room for advocacy.

this is an extremely important read, even if you don’t care about the Rust game engine Bevy.
anti-AI policies are broadly popular, and pro-AI policies destroy communities. this article is an excellent summary of a project going from an apparent (but not actual) anti-AI stance to a pro-AI one, on the false pretenses that AI boosters were subject to harassment and witch hunts. those false pretenses are already common, and you’re going to see them a lot more soon because this is a playbook.
"Meanwhile, what’s really existential is AI powering autonomous weapons, killing machines, that are actually being used in warfare. The climate catastrophe is a real thing that could be exacerbated by what these tech companies are building. Bosses are using AI as an excuse to get rid of their pesky workers. This machine-god narrative is, in my opinion, meant to distract us from these."
Yes, a thousand times this. There is no AGI or SkyNet lurking around the corner.
“Power grab”

> DHH is using his position and his influence to accumulate donations that he then can distribute to projects that align with his fascist worldview and ambitions. And in a time where many important projects and infrastructures are strapped for cash running just on the goodwill of a handful of people that is increasingly dangerous.

I wish I needn't care about Omarchy or DHH. Maybe you're annoyed by now by all the posts about Omarchy.
I mean, we get it: DHH recently discovered Linux after he got sick of Apple taking 30% of all his revenue, and as a narcissistic millionaire businessman he's naturally trying to make some bucks with his configuration files or at least increase his fame. We took a look at his so-called "distribution" and all it turned out to be is just Arch Linux with some shitty vibe-coded bash scripts on top. Okay, so what? We don't have to use Omarchy if we don't like it, so simply move on. Why continue obsessing over Omarchy or whether others like it?
If I decided to install Arch on my machine after an evaluation of all Linux distributions, I wouldn't be obsessively reading about Ubuntu every day long after I already decided in favor of Arch. Also, if I decided for myself that my preference is NixOS, then what does it matter to me if other people have other preferences, and themselves prefer Fedora or Mint?
Why still obsess over Omarchy?
I believe this is a story about more than just "one person's dotfiles". One person's Linux configuration wouldn't attract close to 20 million USD and growing, even if it's a famous person.
It's also not just some tax evasion scheme.
What will really unfold here remains to be seen, but I believe what is happening here is that one of the loudest white-supremacist voices in the software industry is rallying behind him (in preparation for something awful) those executives and rich people who now don't fear consequences for a full mask-off fascist moment.
They don't need 18 million USD to ensure the continued development of Hyprland. They are collecting money and are preparing for something else, something bigger than that, something bigger than saving peanuts in taxes, something awful to happen.
I wish we needn't have to, but Omarchy is suspicious as hell and this is something we definitely need to continue monitoring. Someone here on Mastodon suggested this is a story an investigative journalist should dig into. I agree.
