It's wider than just Thiel. Our own Alan Gibbs was a driving force in creating the Atlas Network, and his daughter (former manager of the Headless Chickens, Straitjacket Fits and 95bFM) ran the joint for a while. They collect money from the very rich and distribute it to hundreds of grubby little front organisations like the FSU, the TPU, the ACT Party etc.
In the old days we would call this the CIA, this is the current privatised model.
I'm now very suspicious of 95bFM alumni.
If you support "age verification" online, you are supporting a system that GUARANTEES privacy meltdowns -- endangering all of us -- because the giant databases of scanned IDs are perpetually hacked by criminals who sell private data. https://www.techdirt.com/2026/09/03/hackers-had-a-live-feed-of-every-id-this-verification-company-scanned-for-over-a-year/
"Lupe" shares, "We're harvesting cilantro piece rate. We get paid $1.50 per box of 48 bunches. Supermarket sell each bunch for 75 cents each. It isn't fair. But there is nothing we can do except try to work a bit faster to squeeze in harvesting an extra box." #WeFeedYou
@internetarchive LLMs?!?! Seriously?
This is disgusting - these chatbots cause AI psychosis in their users, are built on the misuse of people's work against their wishes, and are horrendously computationally inefficient, meaning they are awful for the climate and water usage
Cancelling my monthly donation - I'm not sending money towards LLMs
@internetarchive What the fuck are you doing.
This is a message to non-Germans (and some Germans, depending on their politics) to leave Germany, regardless of the federal state we live in. #afd #fascism #germany #deutschland #nazism #depol #election #sachsenAnhaltWahl #sachsenAnhalt
As corporations race to dominate legal cannabis, the people most harmed by prohibition are still fighting for a voice.

There's a good chance that this is as good as the tech will get and, despite being thoroughly dysfunctional, it'll still be the long term future of programming simply because employers would rather pay two dollars for a shitty unreliable model than one dollar for an employee.
Think about outsourcing. There was no "after the outsourcing bubble" for most western factory workers. There was just immiseration and ruined towns.
There was no "after the 2007 housing bubble". We still have housing bubbles pretty much everywhere you look. The finance markets are even less regulated. Fraud was basically legalised.
So, I'm sceptical about the notion that the software industry will "revert" after the bubble.
Unreliable models whose output is massaged into place by overseas labour will just suit them fine, even if the result is largely broken. See outsourcing
I'm guessing there won't be an "after the bubble", at least not for software dev . This might well be the future of coding in perpetuity, just at some point it'll be even shittier
This can only be fixed on a political level. A bubble pop will give the investor class an opportunity to solidify the system into place, much like after 2007

Periodic reminder that if your market depends on volume sales to survive, then killing affordable entry into a market means killing the market.
#Autistici / Inventati are closing down.
I am speechless.
A/I is history.
"A/I is shutting down. The Autistici/Inventati collective is shutting down and will soon discontinue all of the services we provide.
There is no easy way to announce or explain this.
Every day we stayed online after August 26, 2026, has been a victory, but now we are forced to stop."

@The4thCircle @kestral Moreover, if some of the code in your project falls under a copyleft license like GPL and was written by other authors who you do know, the terms of the license you received from them requires that you document the provenance of all changes making up the derived work, including authorship.
If you are merging AI slop into the codebase, you are violating the terms of the GPL on the code by known contributors, and thereby infringing their copyright.
