- Research and science has been dismantled or pushed abroad. This is going to tank innovation
- Education is increasingly outsourced to LLMs/ed tech as well

What's going to be left?

It's not entirely clear what the future US economy is supposed to be doing other than buy stuff with debt

In the late 90s/early 2000s the US deindustrialised by outsourcing manufacturing

The bargain was basically "you make the stuff, we provide design, research, services, software, and financial markets"

Now they seem to be "de-servicing" as well:

- US films and TV are being shot abroad
- Software dev and related are being outsourced to LLMs and the shift from US models to cheaper non-US ones seems certain
- Finance is all-in on "AI" while tariffs and trade wars destroy its fundamentals
