This is such a great story! An employee at a rural electric co-op recognized a need for childcare among their membership, and so the electric co-op helped organize a cooperative solution!

Switching from Flock to another ALPR provider or other police surveillance technology isn't a fix, EFF’s Matthew Guariglia told @NPR. "You're just replacing one color of camera for another. Those dangers you were concerned about are still going to be there." https://www.npr.org/2026/08/22/nx-s1-5931446/flock-fallout-competitors-see-opportunity
This is pretty much where I sit on AI today. Christopher Newfield always gets the context right IMO. https://utotherescue.blogspot.com/2026/05/liner-note-53-ai-and-public-good.html

- Research and science has been dismantled or pushed abroad. This is going to tank innovation
- Education is increasingly outsourced to LLMs/ed tech as well
What's going to be left?
It's not entirely clear what the future US economy is supposed to be doing other than buy stuff with debt
2/2
In the late 90s/early 2000s the US deindustrialised by outsourcing manufacturing
The bargain was basically "you make the stuff, we provide design, research, services, software, and financial markets"
Now they seem to be "de-servicing" as well:
- US films and TV are being shot abroad
- Software dev and related are being outsourced to LLMs and the shift from US models to cheaper non-US ones seems certain
- Finance is all-in on "AI" while tariffs and trade wars destroy its fundamentals

The Declaration of Independence was written in a small room by a few property-owning white men.
A different vision of democracy is now taking shape in community spaces and on the streets, where working people are demanding a real share of governing power.

"Ooh kudzu is soOoOoOOo scary!" is kinda like fearmongering about Burmese pythons in Florida.
Don't get me wrong, the pythons are definitely there & they're a problem.
But also, at the same time, most of them DO get eaten before reaching maturity. By the alligators that already live there.

#1 isn't real bc "AI" doesn't have a concept of what "everything" is bc it doesn't have concepts bc it's a fucking piece of garbage software. #2 isn't true because *it isn't fucking true*.
"AI" psychosis plus imperial provincialism is stripping people of their ability to form even the most basic of coherent mental models of how the world actually is.
Normally I engage in debate with people, but I'm really getting to the point where "AI" people get blocked first.
It's like talking to a cultist
To think "AI" is going to "destroy us all" you have to make a whole lotta assumptions about it that are simply not supported by evidence.
But you also have to have forgotten that until ~20 years ago, everything worked fine and the IoT *didn't exist*.
"AI" doomers think that 1) "AI" will take over everything through "online", and 2) the entire world relies on "online" to function.
Gold, money, power and a crowd trained not to look too closely. Kirk Anderson illustrates blind trust in action.

“A Technology of Unlearning”

> Rather, this “unlearning” of “AI” involves cognitive surrender and cognitive atrophy. It involves dependence and perhaps even (if you accept this medical and moral framework) addiction. It involves the monopolistic control and, so damningly, the erasure of knowledges.
