@davidgerard I have advised a bunch of NGOs to basically do that: The only grants for infrastructure they get are about "AI" so think about processes you actually need to change and label standard infra as "sovereign AI". Works as a pragmatic strategy especially for cash poor NGOs

The man in the audience who attended a literary festival but doesn’t value human translation at least noticed the negative reaction when he advised an author to use AI instead of a professional human translator.

He said testily, as if addressing dim-witted children: "I mean a langauge learning machine. I’m not talking about Google Translate."

That struck me as a typical TechBro Reply Guy attitude. He assumes people object to generative AI because they don’t understand it, not because they do.

People: Why did my PC/laptop with AMD graphics started crashing when I try to play a video, after a minute or so?
Linux: oh yeah that's a bug we introduced in kernel 7.1 a couple of days ago :)
People: okay I can just switch to LTS kernel, right?
Linux: actually we backported the bug into LTS too :)
People: but surely it will soon be patched?
Linux: actually we won't backport the fix into LTS, because LTS is for important fixes only :)
People: but at least the latest kernel wil be patched?

anyway there’s smoking gun evidence that he was paid by effective altruists to do marketing for the “AI is so dangerous but so revolutionary” flavor of critihype by effective altruists. this is alleged by hank green expert hank green in the washington post, as well as an EA in charge of influencer marketing. he was literally being paid by TESCREALs.

someone in the same community ran a program where TikTokers were required to post an AI critihype video a day in a cult-like environment where they were subjected to “voluntary” waterboarding and other forms of indoctrination. I’m not kidding, this literal thing happened.

No one in the seven-person curl security team is on or runs Windows. People sending us Windows-only flaws makes us groan and roll eyes. And sometimes hyperventilate a little.

Why this is so? Because no one in the team wants to be on Windows, and no other curl contributor is active enough, Windows-knowledgeable and interested in joining the team. Let me know if you are someone like that who I've just not noticed.

Wish I had enough money to travel abroad so I can eat lettuce again.

I see a lot of "unpopular opinion" posts today. Let me add one more. There's something we working folk need more than unions. We need cooperatives. People working together and owning their work. More people actually seizing the means of production, less working for rich rentiers.

Oracle has banned AI-generated code from OpenJDK contributions, citing safety, security, and intellectual property risks. The open-source Java project steward said developers can use LLMs privately for debugging and reviewing code but cannot submit AI-generated material to repositories, pull requests, or other project channels.
