One of the simplest way of dealing with AI in your business-sector, especially from the AI-boosters within your company, is to ask, "Will our insurance companies cover the costs of any errors? If not, then it's not production-ready. Yet!"

That way it's an external organisation that you have to ask, and companies are required to hedge their bets by having insurance.

And it will act as a face-saving way of people within the company to climb down from the AI-boosterism.

"We're always running experiments with new technologies to see if they will be viable for our customers..."

It's the face-saving way of saying that the Emperor is wearing no clothes... :D

I think there will be real value in vibe code cleanup services but I expect most jobs would be a discovery that the vibe coding is a symptom, not a cause.

The dramatic increase in AI data centers in such a short period of time, facilitated by governments at all levels, proves that there is will for “progress”, but somehow that will is never available for anything other than making a handful of people rich.

I want to see this kind of push for infrastructure that tackles climate change and reduces suffering.

Hey folks, can you help me out with a little something: trying to come up with a good number of files limit for a file scan (for Kitten so you don’t hit heap memory limits if you run it from the wrong directory by mistake) and I’d love some statistics from real JavaScript/TypeScript Node.js projects of the number of files in them (excluding .git and node_modules).

Would you be kind enough to run the following command in Terminal in your largest projects and let me know what number your get (along with a short description of the project):

I think the great take-away is the central thing about this "AI" bubble: we are suffering this shit because the *useless* people in our organisations, who thanks to archaic nature of our businesses and institutions, still get to call the shots, wanted rid of people who *actually do* the actual work, the *actually useful* people.

Why? well, they want our money, for a start. they think they deserve all the institutions' and businesses' revenue _and more_. But I also think there's an element of envy in there. I don't know, maybe every now and then a CEO or a dean or something walks into the janitor, and notices that if that guy were to be fired, there'd be serious disruption to operations, but if they themselves were to just stop showing up, shit would continue running, unaffected if not better.

What I'm saying is we probably wouldn't have had nearly as much bullshit if our economy was based on cooperatives and other self-governing democratic institutions that didn't have the overhead of lining the pockets of a useless owner and managerial class.

(Co-ops have managers, they're hired like any other employee, get that kind of pay, and are answerable to the co-op, not some futile bunch of leeches.)

This is the magnificent library Anthropic amassed, before destroying it because it gave them a legal copyright loophole.

Today in being forced to use LLMs because "vulnerability" disclosures have been produced by them:

no version numbers or git revisions anywhere
the reports are malformed markdown which has then been filed into a jira ticket which doesn't accept markdown anyway
Many of the CVSS scores look like: "CVSS:3.1/AV/AC:L/..." where it should be "AV:L", but the bot, which again only knows statistically what a CVSS score looks like, is generating gibberish.
the diffs for "suggested fixes" have been generated by something that doesn't actually know anything about how diffs are formed, either in terms of process or meaningfully in structure:they're missing file names, line numbers, and function names
all leading whitespace, including after "-" or "+" line markers, is missing
In some of the diff hyphens (especially for delete lines) are just missing? But sometimes "--" has been combined to "—"

I want my money back.

@glyph a lot of the things getting reported and fixed are ultra-low severity security issues and what I would call 'security-adjacent bugs'. This is IMO leading to a lot of busywork and wasted time when projects decide to release these off-schedule because 'anything found by an LLM is a zero day' and other fallacies.

@miss_rodent @glyph Short version: an LLM supposedly found a proof of the Collatz conjecture, but it turned out said model instead fuzzed Lean and found proof solver bugs.
