@zzt @dysfun more broadly, this essay is sticking in my head again

the bots take the forms of persuasive writing and do them extremely badly

I find the defensive panic of US ‘AI’ enthusiasts in response to the use of Chinese models kind of comforting

“Look, if you actually do the numbers, the Chinese models aren’t cheaper!”

You don’t say. Really? Do you mean to say that they aren’t going to make this whole house of cards sustainable after the bubble pops?

@varx
I was having a hard time finding something more reputable, apart from the SBU FB page, which I was trying to avoid linking to here. But if you doubt:

"Have you felt sick after handling Starbucks’s blending powder? If you’re at a union store, reach out to your staff organizer as soon as you’re able (if you don’t know who that is, text us at the link in our bio). If you’re not yet a member of our union, you can still reach out to us if you have questions through the link at our bio."

Finally have given up on Dropbox -- Linux support just doesn't cut it -- in favor of local encrypted backups and rcloning that directory to Backblaze. Less convenient, yes, but since I couldn't trust that Dropbox was functioning properly, a worthwhile tradeoff (and also less expensive)...

I just convinced my local #punks to upload their music on @mirlo. Here they are:

Give them some love if #midwestemo #emo is your thing!

I appreciate how helpful these shitty websites are reminding me to delete my account by updating their shitty terms and playing M&A games.

if you have access to debian-vote, please for the love of all gods vote Proposal A to ban the use of LLMs in #Debian packaging tools

@eclecticpassions I don't have a more eloquent explanation that Codeberg's own post, but I do have:

- hours spent defending my own server instead of creative pursuits.

- legacy GitHub projects where it's no longer worth sifting through slop to find the genuine PRs.

- the alienation of trying to exchange ideas with other developers and realizing I'm talking to a bot.

FOSS in 2026 is miserable, and Codeberg is taking positive action to fix it.

It's fascinating reading people cry "CENSORSHIP" about Codeberg's LLM policy when the whole thing about #Codeberg is that it's a medium-sized nonprofit forge designed so anyone can host it themselves under free licences.

This is not the State incarcerating you for your opinions, it's an association of people deciding where their limits are.

Do they expect people to open their doors so they can ransack their pantries as well? The Open Source Entitlement Complex runs deeper than I imagined :(

> But here, as with so much of ed-tech (and arguably almost all of “AI”), we can see that this effort really only works for the company itself.

Musk's Tesla modified contracts with customers -- without the customers' permission -- long after they were signed. How does this differ from outright fraud? electrek.co/2026/06/03/tesla-r

RE: dair-community.social/@alex/11

I was a 911 dispatcher for a decade.

To really understand how absolutely terrible an idea it is to have AI answer 911 calls, I'll present you with a single real-life call:

Upon answer, the caller calmly began ordering a pizza. Large, pepperoni. Side order of chicken wings. To be delivered promptly.

The only sign the caller gave that things were amiss? She rather ignored the first few questions from the calltaker.

Because she was being physically abused, had already been beaten, and her abuser was *IN THE ROOM* listening to her order pizza.

Tell me how your AI is going to read between those lines.
