For Emma Goldman, independence meant more than flags and founding myths.

Ford motor company... went all in on AI and it backfired, costing them billions.
They've admitted they mistakenly thought that introducing AI and feeding it their design requirements... that it would spit out good designs.
They're now desperately rehiring hundreds of engineers after the company became the laughing stock of the industry... and the AI they've been using is to blame for the most recalls in US history... 51 recalls covering more than 11 million vehicles in the first half of 2026.
🤔 😂
Open source game engine Godot will no longer accept AI-authored code contributions: 'We can't trust heavy users of AI to understand their code enough to fix it'
At risk of drowning in AI slop code, @godotengine is firming up its contribution requirements.

I haven’t seen much coverage yet of the fresh round of layoffs at Bandcamp?
From the linked Bluesky post:
> my 13 years at bandcamp are coming to an end - i’ve been laid off along with most of the remaining engineers. best job i’ve ever had, working with the best people you could ever work with. unceremonious end to quite a ride.

Have you not looked at what DuckDuckGo has been doing lately, or is everything you say so unreliable? The positions involve AI, and then there's this gem:
John #Roberts Believes In The #Unitary Executive, Except For When It Might Crash His Investment Portfolio - https://www.techdirt.com/2026/06/30/john-roberts-believes-in-the-unitary-executive-except-for-when-it-might-crash-his-investment-portfolio/ "Roberts’ biggest job is swinging that big dial back and forth depending on who is in the White House."
So Fediverse, last week I was laid off by my employer, Elastic, as part of a wider reorg that made my position redundant. 7% of the global workforce was impacted, so I'm not alone in this 😢
I would appreciate boosts as I'm now looking for my next job. Preferably in community open source, but with the crazy market, a mortage and a baby I appreciate any lead.
I'm a backend engineer with strong #cloudinfrastructure , #devops and #observability skills. I spent the last 5 years working with Golang, but have previous experience with Ruby, Python, PHP and JavaScript (that shows how old I am I guess).
I'm searching remotely from Italy.
Thank you!

“Some of the company’s most experienced personnel left before all of their accumulated knowledge could be fully transferred into Ford’s automated systems…”
This is apparently the new line for blaming companies for AI failures: you didn’t fully upload the brains of your senior people before firing them! You have to complete the extraction process first! Suck them dry, •then• discard them!
Machine learning does not actually work that way, but…in this FOMO-driven industry, anything goes to blame the customer.
Surely handing control of our society to next-word predictors whose alignment can be compromised by middle school level logical paradoxes won't have any consequences
