Why is the EU Commission aggressively pushing a for-profit, venture capital funded, and closed source digital ghost town?

Especially when a non-corporate free and open European-made alternative with millions of active people on it exists in the form of Mastodon that’s interoperable with an international alternative called the fediverse?

Could it have something to do with mandatory identity verification? 🤔

I’ve had a huge health setback following my move.

My level of function is half what it was before.

The hospital said they would connect me with “resources” to assist with activities of daily living.

There’s a 1.5 year wait list.

MAiD was offered in under a month.

I don’t want to die.

I don’t want to allow the government to euthanize me.

But this is eugenics I’m always talking about.

I need assistance to survive. Help with cooking & cleaning.

The supports don’t exist unless you have a ton of money.

When you try and push your body to do it yourself, you get worse.

If you end up in hospital, they suggest assisted dying.

Am I “free” to say no? Of course.

Does it feel that way when nothing else is being offered?

Not at all.

I’m being denied the support to live while “offered” death.

That’s coercion.

It’s eugenics.

The system has decided I’m not worth saving.

I’m not alone in this.

Disabled people urgently need allies and support in this fight.

And I need some home care.

@ptoothfish a friend recently tried to use his phone's macro camera and Google Lens's OCR to identify a chip in a board he couldn't read well.

Its "OCR" just made up a text pointing at another completely different chip from a completely different maker. I think *none* of the numbers and letters on it matched what you could see in the pic.

OCR, that thing we had mostly figured out in the 90s and that used to be reliable enough from the 2010s.

Why is the appeal to “traditional European values” always about xenophobia and patriarchy, and not dragging nobles off their horses and bludgeoning them with farming implements in a peasants’ revolt?

Observation about Germany:

Heat pumps are left wing and "woke" as far as German politics are concerned.

German politics have however not figured if installing air conditioners in public buildings and hospitals is a left-wing or right-wing talking point and therefore German politicians don't know how to approach the subject.

However, it is perfectly normal to send bespoke-built police water cannon trucks to public events for cooling them down.

As institutions scrub queer history from public view, citizen archivists are racing to save it.
