Two pieces of good news for W Social:
1) I may have found the problem that has bricked their network for the past week.
2) This may very well be the LAST article I ever write about them. It's exhausting and stressful and I want to retire from this beat and go back to promoting the Fediverse.
Thank you all for your support and encouragement. And to my trusted source (a Fedi friend) who found and shared with me brilliant gems: THANK YOU! It's been a real honor collaborating with you ❤️
Any recommendations on an encrypted location-sharing app for smartphone?
I'm looking for an app appropriate for someone to track the smartphone of a child or an adult in cognitive decline (with their consent!) but that doesn't leak geolocation info to the app provider and their 3672 closest vendors.
So far I've found Paralino, which promises that it is e2e encrypted, but I haven't found an audit or anything. Has this one been audited? Recommendations for alternatives?
A video on how the "Aaaa they're cutting down all these peach trees in California" is mostly just.....weird reporting.
Ain't no point in using perfectly good water & fertilizer to grow fruit that ain't got a use ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Minnesota trade unionists are among 15 people federally indicted after months of organizing against ICE and Border Patrol.
Sarah Lazare and Amy Livingston report that the indictment cites worker assemblies at the United Labor Centre in Minneapolis as evidence of a criminal conspiracy.

The attached photograph was taken in Bristol (UK) in the late 1960s, in the Troubadour folk club. The photographer was local, probably professional, and took pictures at the club fairly regularly.
This newspaper cutting (source unknown) is the only copy I have. I'm sharing it with the promise that I won't name the subject, but she's someone close to me. I would love to get hold of the original.
Please feel free to share this with anyone who might have any leads.

Moreover, I’ve concluded that the best way to make sense of what is happening today is to back up and focus on the big picture and develop a framework for understanding our current moment.
Trying to correct bad information (including on our "side") is like trying to put out a forest fire with a squirt gun.
Better to back up and look at the big picture to understand where we are, how we got here, and how we might find our way out.

The war on protest does not always begin with mass arrests.
Sometimes it begins with a city (ATLANTA) publishing the names and addresses of 100,000+ people who signed a petition, sending a message about what dissent may cost.

You found a vulnerability in a vendor's product at work. You reach out to your TAM and they tell you that they won't accept your findings through any path but their bug bounty path. The bug bounty rules explicitly declare your _good findings_ out-of-scope of the program. There is an executed NDA in place.
You've already argued with the vendor, they're not budging.
What do you do?
Can anyone recommend companies that do not require employees/devs to use AI (or better yet, restrict its use)?
Looking for a new job but also just companies and organizations I can support!
