#fedihelp hey Fedi! I am trying to get in touch with the owners to the rights of Joseph Weizenbaum;s "Computer Power and Human Reason".
The Weizenbaum Institute (a research institute, not a family foundation) does not seem too responsive.
Last time (1987) the rights were with Penguin in the UK.
These days they may be still with them or possibly with Prof. Weizenbaum's heirs.
Anyone know someone who knows someone who knows someone?
Thank you!

Dear Fedi friends,

I wonder if I'm being too harsh or if my impression of being misled is accurate?

The CEO of a burgeoning social network - which launched 2 days ago - has said earlier today:

"We are letting in a couple of thousands every day now. But we try to speed things up. We are having almost 100,000 on the waitlist."

How many users do you think they CURRENTLY have based on this statement? Ballpark figure?

(reveal coming soon)

Will Bunch: "The indictment of the Minneapolis 15 — a so-called “conspiracy” that included innocuous acts of dissent like discussing ICE activities on the Signal app or publishing an article on a pro-anarchist website — and the chemical assault against citizens exercising their free-speech rights are all the same instinct from a violently repressive government.

"They want you to shut up. They want you to stay in your home. And they want to make you very afraid — five months before an election that they are practically screaming they plan to do everything in their dictatorial powers to steal."

The free and open web is facing a major threat from publishers that are trying to change core internet standards at the IETF. Altering these protocols could harm how we use the web every day. eff.org/deeplinks/2026/06/free

Don't let lawmakers erode transparency. California Assembly Bill 1821 would let officials delay responses to record requests, charge an hourly rate to search for and review them, and even allow government agencies to sue requesters.

Urge them to vote no.

@conservancy I'm going to state this very clearly:

Projects/communities have an absolute right to exclude people whose behaviors they deem unethical, unsafe, or hostile from participation.

And deeming LLM-gen-AI use as unethical is a completely reasonable position.

Prediction markets promise ordinary users a shortcut to wealth.

But Bloomberg found that the majority of Polymarket profits went to a tiny slice of accounts that appeared to be automated bots. Everyone else lost $131 million in aggregate.

So, if folks are using git-pages to deploy their static websites (e.g. via the *new* Codeberg Pages) and are building with the Woodpecker CI, I made this small plugin for pushing the build pages out:
