I just finished reading The Forest on the Edge of Time by Jasmin Kirkbride and it was brilliant!
A sometimes jarring and ultimately optimistic scifi/time travel/philosophical romp that I expect to reverberate in me for a long time.

There's blood on the wires.
Deutsche Bahn: Your train is going from platform 7 at 21:20.
Deutsche Bahn: No, 5 min late, platform 7, 21:25.
Deutsche Bahn: No, it is going on time, platform 7, 21:20.
[A train arrives at 21:09]
Deutsche Bahn display: Do not board! Do not board! Do not board!
Deutsche Bahn app: Platform 7, 21:20.
Deutsche Bahn display: Do not board! Do not board! Do not board!
[Font size 2]: Stuttgart 21:35 from platform 8.
(It is not just across, it requires walking around because the station is a terminus.)

the introduction of so-called "AI" into products whose users obviously and definitely Do Not Want It, such as ecosia or at mozilla, exemplifies the sheer soullessness of the nonprofit industrial complex. evidently the people making decisions at ecosia don't actually care about the environment, or being sustainable, or planting trees (which tbh is a very simplistic solution to a complex problem to begin with). No, to them ecosia is just a step on their career path like any other, and they're clearly more focused on being able to write "spearheaded introduction of AI at [company]" in their resume than they are on making good decisions that actually further the goals the nonprofit is ostensibly for.
Cyberdecks seem to be having a resurgence, and the designs are changing for the better. How our current age mirrors the history of medieval guilds, the Luddites, and the Arts and Crafts movement. And #solarpunk is getting brought up more often!

New legislation could spell the end for the creative open-source community that has grown around 3D printing. From medical equipment to cat toys, we can't let innovation be stifled by state mandated censorware. https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2026/04/print-blocking-anti-consumer-permission-print-part-1
Nina of @abcdd speaks about the implications of the Foreign Terrorist Organization status by the US State Dept on the members of the Antifa Ost case in Germany, the deBanking of anti-repression and prisoner support groups, and the political landscape in Germany
So, it turns out the German implementation of eIDAS (electronic ID wallet for e.g. age attestation) will require an Apple/Google account to function
Absolutely pathetic

After days of trying to ignore this, I finally read the post.
I fail to see anything new in there. It's unethical for several reasons. It doesn't really help. If you babysit it like you would a junior, you just might get it to produce code that sort of works. Unprovoked terrible plug for years another imperative, almost memory safe language (except when it really matters). Don't use LLMs. [...] Most obvious reasons mentioned: Needs loads.of babysitting, mediocre results, less code ownership, dubious copyright situation, causes brain rot, no original creativity and will spoil the pool, destroys our planet. Not mentioned: it's being sold waaay below cost and once you're hooked,.prices will go up.(Rivermind Lux).
Possibly try AI, [as] if that ever comes available to you.
Inspired by Germany's #DiDay ("digital independence day") and the Danish #DanmarkSkifter, the Netherlands now has #DoeiDag ("bye day"), every first Sunday of the month. 🔥🇳🇱
DoeiDag is a montly day to say goodbye to big tech and to try open alternatives. It's organized by the good folks of @doeidag
