@Em0nM4stodon @Tutanota What’s this, conservatives having trouble understanding consent, you say?

If you think the administration doesn't have a plan for this war, you don't understand Zero Dimensional Chess. gocomics.com/brian-mcfadden/20

The goal isn't to protect children,
the goal is to de-anonymize every comment and action on the internet, associating it with a legal ID, by eventually requesting official identification from every adult using a computer.

Some politicians have already stated this plainly.

This leads to censorship of anyone criticizing their government.

This leads to repression of marginalized people, especially immigrants, people of color, and trans and gender diverse people.

This leads to self-censorship of any comments or actions that could be interpreted against the system. Such as speaking out against fascism and authoritarian surveillance, or defending human rights publicly.

This leads to total control of the population and its tools of communications.

This leads to the end of democracy, centralizing power even more in the hands of a few.

Do not let them do this to us.

Note to self: In the future, do not waste time trying to help people who are using "ai" to write or debug software.

After all, if the race to age-gate the internet was purely about child safety, we would expect its strongest supporters to be child-development experts or privacy advocates. Instead, the loudest advocates are organizations dedicated to policing sexuality, attacking LGBTQ+ folks and reproductive rights, and censoring anything that doesn’t fit within their worldview.

I really hope the Debian developers choose/vote not to allow AI use in the development of Debian.

#noai #debian

Everyone who voted for this ding-dong even once should be put in a conservatorship to protect us from their bad decisions. We can call them "conservatives" for short.

"You are against AI because you are afraid it is going to take away your job" is the new "You are an atheist because you hate God".

@crowbriarhexe "A Swedish software engineer claims to Roose that his company spends more than his salary on his Claude Code tokens alone"

Imagine finding out they could double your salary or double the size of your team this way.

You don't believe Altman is such a figure but you think Amodei, who insisted that OpenAI use all 10,000 GPUs and train the biggest model possible, when he was there, is such a figure?

In his video, Bernie is literally creating a Claude ad, showing the system as an all knowing being that answers all of his questions. An ad for Anthropic, a company claiming that they can't even confidently say that "Claude isn't conscious".

@_elena @mat reminder, the Bluesky team explicitly mentioned commercial use of their data in their 2024 arXiv preprint:

“…as Bluesky grows, there are likely to be multiple professionally-run indexers for various purposes. For example, a company that performs sentiment analysis on social media activity about brands could easily create a whole-network index that provides insights to their clients. Web search engines can incorporate Bluesky activity into their indexes,…” pg. 5

it’s been part of the model from the start…

They are banning books in addition to banning the web because they want to prevent children from coming into contact with ideas.

I am older than the www, I lived in an underdeveloped country, didn't get a computer until I was 14. Libraries were my window into the world. I became a member of the adult library aged 11 because there was not much to read in the children's library. My mother tried to keep me away from the library after I showed her Cosmos by Carl Sagan and said: "See, this book also says that god does not exist, it is not just me".

That's why to this day I have a thing for libraries. We have to make sure they are preserved, because the web surely won't be.

A British school library banned around 200 books deemed inappropriate. Including books about totalitarianism, toxic masculinity and books aimed at queer teenagers.

This is a worrying move, and extra worrying is the use of AI to classify the books. It demonstrates the Bias as a Service that is inherently part of what AI is.
