:alerta: I #DIDit

Today I published my very last post on Instagram!

It took me some time to prepare this sad moment, but I am happy it's here now.

I shared @_elena great introduction video and wrote in the captions about how the Fediverse is such great place for creatives, artists, hobbyists, tinkerer, writer, art lovers, photographers, blogger, nerds and just everybody. And how one can find interesting people to talk to, original artworks, diverse communities and discover great music and journalism... and all this without annoying ads or stupid algorithms. :blobcatheartbongo:

💪 I've even (hello non tech person here!) made a little website for my friends with some info and links to help them switch to the Fediverse.

I am Canadian.

Despite what my elected officials say:
- I do not consider Israel an ally
- I do not consider Iran an enemy

My allies are the civilians in harms way, wherever they are.
My enemies are governments that recklessly massacre civilians in service of the #Epstein class, wherever they are.

The results of the study that this article reports upon is that if atmospheric CO₂ levels continue to rise at the current rate then within several decades (50-odd years) our blood chemistry will be altered such that healthy homeostasis will be compromised.

So if you are concerned about water scarcity, sea level rise, damage due to floods and storms, crop failures, war, pestilence, and mass migrations here is something to add to the list of things driving us all toward a mass extinction event.

Stop fossil fuels. Stop war.

Every month the United States provides even more reason to boycott its products and companies — the strikes on Iran being just the latest.

In light of that, it’s a great time to ditch the products and services of US tech companies. I made a comprehensive guide to help you that I’ve been regularly updating for months.

The FTC’s new policy on age verification "will allow businesses to do more of what they want to do, which is vacuum up young people's information," EFF’s @Adam_D_Schwartz told MediaPost. "It's a threat to privacy to force people to upload this information." mediapost.com/publications/art

This podcast on the intersection on AI& militarisation and how it's the buyout they've been waiting for is quite well done. Both Naomi Klein and the hosts (@emilymbender and @alex) are legends!

In case you were wondering, before this morning's Iran attack, Polymarket had yet another spate of likely inside traders betting that the US would strike Iran by February 28.

Per the due diligence investigation service Bubblemaps, the wallets used were first used 24 hours earlier.

Betting prediction websites are national security risks, not Anthropic.

Head's up, Mastodon users: There appears to be a coordinated effort to impersonate relatively high-profile people who have accounts on various instances but who have not used them in a while.

I've gotten several follow notifications - and a couple of DMs - from impersonators of people I know. The bogus accounts have lots of underscores in the handles, and they repost items from the past, sometimes years old. If you spot this, please report, do not engage, and then block.

Pls boost.

Rewriting other people's original reporting and clickbait-wrapping the "new" story is not new. But a scumbag operation called "The Daily News Today" is doing it at AI-juiced scale.

Alexios Mantzarlis, one of journalism's expert observers of this stuff, explains here:

Please don't reward ripoff artists.

RE: mastodon.social/@lyndamerry484

Please remember that this happens everywhere, not just the US.

In Switzerland, the right-wing politician and billionaire «Blocher» family is buying up one local journal after the other[1][2].

At the same time, the right-wing parties are denouncing and actively fighting public media by trying to take away their funds[3]. It makes sense, if you are a billionaire and recognize journalism as the fourth estate that it is, you want to push it as far into the "free market" as you can, because that is where money has the most unfettered power, and as someone with the infinite money glitch unlocked, you can reign freely and control the narrative.

Getting rid of public media and taking over private outlets has been the fascists' long-game for a while [4].

Just fixed a big blocker for FLTK >= 1.4.

Blurry fonts were caused by a half pixel misalignment bug in FLTK which broke the font hinting leading to poor readability. Should be fixed in next FLTK 1.4.5 release.

I was not expecting to having to follow this whole font rendering pipeline rabbit hole. I'm surprised how little information there is on the Web about this topic, maybe I write more details later.

Forced to use AI at work, hate it. Usage is monitored so I can't avoid it. I've set up mine to play a Sim City clone. It burns through tokens, making crap cities that quickly go bankrupt. Just been told that I'm getting a bonus for being a top user.
