6 comps, 113 bands from 21 countries, over $50k raised in 2 years for humanitarian aid through Gaza Soup Kitchen, direct support of families, and buying esims for people in Gaza.

We are moving on to other forms of fundraising for Palestine for the time being but please support the comps and spread the word, especially TOMORROW Friday Feb 6 as there are no Bandcamp fees. As the world turns its eyes away from the suffering and devastation in Gaza, our support is needed even more.

You can buy the comps at thedissidents.bandcamp.com

We have limited tapes left of yes liberation, pomegranate seeds, olive seeds and poppy seeds, and we also have no genocide on LP and amazing anarcho/mob inspired t-shirts designed by Carry on Screening.

In addition all proceeds from any dissidents downloads and merch sold on Bandcamp Friday will be donated.

Thanks so much to everyone who has generously given their time and talent to this project.

Enshittification is a new term for an old capitalistic concept, and capitalism is older than the internet. Don't fool yourself into thinking that there was ever a free and open internet; it's still waiting to be invented.

Democracy? What Democracy? It's all about the old mighty cold dollar... ->

"When the World Wide Web went live in the early 1990s, its founders hoped it would be a space for anyone to share information and collaborate. But today, the free and open web is shrinking.

The Internet Archive has been recording the history of the internet and making it available to the public through its Wayback Machine since 1996. Now, some of the world’s biggest news outlets are blocking the archive’s access to their pages.

Major publishers – including The Guardian, The New York Times, the Financial Times, and USA Today – have confirmed they’re ending the Internet Archive’s access to their content.

While publishers say they support the archive’s preservation mission, they argue unrestricted access creates unintended consequences, exposing journalism to AI crawlers and members of the public trying to skirt their paywalls.

Yet, publishers don’t simply want to lock out AI crawlers. Rather, they want to sell their content to data-hungry tech companies. Their back catalogues of news, books and other media have become a hot commodity as data to train AI systems.

Does anyone here know #linux mount namespaces well?

I need to #ssh to an old phone supporting only #RSA but I don't want a huge #container .

When I override /etc/ssh_config in a namespace to add rsa, that file is not owned by root and ssh exits...

I'm impressed by the new activity on input methods! Is that the usual post-talk excitement, or will things switch to a new gear?
We'll know in a week or so. Thank you all anyway :)

TOMORROW: Get trained on the tools you need to exercise your constitutional right to monitor ICE and other federal agencies as they terrorize our communities.

Over 200,000 people joined last week’s ICE watch training. Let’s make this call even bigger: mobilize.us/indivisible/event/

To protect our digital rights, we need the rule of law. When an armed agent of the government breaks the law, the civilian they injure must be made whole. This includes money damages to compensate them for their injury. eff.org/deeplinks/2026/02/prot

Hey friends. If you know anybody who's looking hiring, please send them my way.

More sad commentary on the state of software development/engineering...I did a web search for "software engineering books" and found almost all the recommendations and "popular titles" were for coding books.

I can pretty much recommend against any book that has "clean", "pragmatic", or a 3GL name in the title. I wonder if any software engineering books are being written anymore?

Imagine seeing someone wearing Schumer merch. Real life Beavis & Butthead Winger kid.

He records them and shares it with the world.

What do people sound like when reporting their neighbors, coworkers, students? Are they confident they are doing a righteous good thing?

Here the banality of evil in these sheepish suburban voices.

Just discovered part of my HRT has been discontinued due to an AI note taking error. Gynae did not say discontinue, and I have letters to prove it. Now I may have to be without testosterone until this is proven, which may mean another 6 month wait to resee a gynaecologist via NHS. Hopefully my letters will suffice, but currently unclear.

I am beyond furious. Also, wow. Fuck living in this dystopia.

Keep every medical record you get, you're going to need it in this new terrifying timeline.

A modest proposal: any company or organisation that has a telephone system with a hold or queuing system, must pay as a tax an amount equal to the National Minimum Wage (approx 20p / minute) for every minute every caller is on hold, whether or not that call is eventually answered or the caller drops out.
