Great to be part of social.coop! Here's an #introduction: The People's Tech is aimed towards becoming a co-op based in England with a small team of Small Tech workers promoting technology at the intersection of privacy, security, sustainability, *and* inclusivity, Covid-safer and non-hierarchical, slowly rolling out public workshops discussing alternatives to Big Tech, plus private consultation for co-ops, non-profits, and campaign groups on how to make better choices (which has already begun!)

We wrote for Jacobin about our recent panel with three U.S. journalists who were aboard the Gaza aid flotillas.

They described facing assaults and threats from Israeli soldiers — and said the U.S. government did little to help.

We gotta have a better word for "black ice." Out loud, that last syllable sounds like "guys." Invisible Ice, the Sneaky Slippys, Jack Frost's Snot, Gnomes on their Zambonis, the Devil's Gone Curling, etc.

Amazon might not notice that you stopped shopping with them* but if you take that same modest bit of disposable income and spend it on art bought directly from artists, the small electronics projects of your friends, helping people in dire financial situations and the the local theater all of those people WILL notice. It will have a massive impact.

*But, also Amazon does notice. Especially as more and more people do this.

I am quite sure that if you haven’t donated to @bonfire ‘s campaign yet it’s just because you did not know about it yet, so here is a link: indiegogo.com/en/projects/bonf 🙂

In case you are not convinced yet, here’s a slide for you about (and against!) #Enshittification 💩

In this moment, I think every project that fights enshittification should deserve attention and support. I myself contributed, and got me an awesome print (limited edition number 19, which as y’all know is binary for 🤟😜)

This is potentially one of the best projects for community information to emerge in years. (Glad it'll be a web app.) Several questions:

Is it open source? If not, why not?

Will this tech be centralized? If so, why?

Why is it using the odious Substack for the main blog?

"just ignore them" no, I expect people to be kind and ignoring this type of rude behavior isn't solving a damn problem.

A $164,000 bill for public records is a good indicator that the government is hiding something.

These tactics don't silence reporters, they tell them to keep digging.

Running my own full-service, multi-tenanted & multi-domain email service gives me a remarkable feeling of power. It's is seriously cool (been running 4 of them for a bunch of years). In other news, Mailcow is superb - . mailcow.email/ (I run their Dockerized install)

Can't help but wonder why democratic governments, worldwide, are doing whatever US BigTech tells them to do with regard to 'AI' policy & adoption. How do these governments not realise that BigTech is inherently authoritarian, psychotic, & working against democracy? They are antithetical to our societal values & yet they're welcomed with open arms? Do our governments secretly realise that they're 100% dependent on these corporations & are therefore vassals, not sovereign? Or is it corruption?

TODAY is the last day to order and be GUARANTEED your package will be in the mail and on its way to you by December 5 (or earlier!) (but no later!).📦

There's a first time for everything. Just had to deny a registration request on the official OctoPrint plugin repository as the plugin the author tried to register turned out to be pretty much completely vibe coded. And in the end, even their communication seemed to be the output of an LLM.

Unbelievably bad quality: tons of bugs, dead code, (future) vulnerabilities, ... I honestly haven't yet seen this amount of shittiness from a human developer, no matter how clueless.

I hate this future.

TIL: Desktop Linux has overtaken macOS in gaming (3.20% vs 2.02%).

FOSS is outplaying Apple thanks to Valve’s investments in SteamOS (gaming-focused Linux distribution) and Proton (compatibility layer for running Windows software in Linux).
