Your worth is not determined by your job, your bank account or your ability to produce for capitalism.

Disabled people have worth.

Children have worth.

The elderly have worth.

The homeless have worth.

Those in power want you to de-value others so you will accept atrocities.

As soon as you’re willing to label a certain group of people expendable, the fascists win.

When you decide that social supports aren’t necessary, the billionaires win.

When you demand to pay less taxes even if it causes intense suffering? The 1% wins.

Microsoft is increasingly shrill in its desperation to get people to love it's 'AI' service, 'Copilot'... windowslatest.com/2025/11/28/y As Microsoft famously does, making up 'grassroots clamour' that suits its strategic agenda... How pathetic. Apparently *no one* wants this. (I've never seen it first hand, as I'd never let any Microsoft software on my hardware)

I was going to put all the links, but you can find them here: terikanefield.com/musing-about

“Teri, why are you giving away your book for free?”

“Because I’m a rebel. It’s easy to make money in this new information revolution, but, for reasons I explain in the later sections of the book, the pursuit of profit too often leads to click-baity, rage-inducing, bias-confirming content. Repairing the public sphere requires an open exchange of ideas. People shouldn’t have to buy a ticket.”

It’s finished. It’s also not finished because, in the words of Paul Valéry, a piece of writing is never finished. Ultimately it is abandoned.

That’s because writing is thinking, and we’re never finished with that.

Anyway, I figured out what to do with that long blog post: Make it a free book. Making it free meant I had to do the publishing work myself because publishers want to make money. They’re funny that way.

It’s also a YouTube series.

You can find the free book . . .

@GuerillaOntologist I guess Nature needs the $3000 publication fee in order to fund their rapid retraction process.

How big tech is creating its own friendly media bubble to ‘win the narrative battle online’ - theguardian.com/technology/202 time for us old-style journos to get even more combative...

So back in 1944, a German U-Boat Commander named Heinz-Wilhelm Eck did exactly what US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth ordered US military forces to do - kill the survivors of a destroyed boat at sea.

Now, as then, this is considered a War Crime.

In 1945, Commander Eck was tried, found guilty with his own logs condemning him and executed by firing squad by the Allies.

USA, this is where you are now.

Doing literal war crimes every nation condemned the Nazis for.

I did a thing! Almost three years ago, I launched a co-operative newspaper in Leicester. Now, we're officially in print 🥳

The Leicester Gazette is our revolution against a broken industry.

ICE officers shouldn't be allowed to stick a phone in anyone's face to run face recognition without their consent. A coalition of privacy and civil rights advocates are telling DHS to end the program immediately.

Another flagrant example of Trump apparatchiks ignoring a federal court's explicit order and doing what the judge told them not to do.

At what point will judges start, you know, doing something about this repeated lawbreaking?

As an interesting note...GPS has been acting weirder here as of late.... This is in Costa Rica. I admit to wondering if this is from futzes to it for invasion of Venezuela.

The GUARD Act’s sponsors claim it will keep our children safe, but that’s not true. Instead, it will undermine both safety and autonomy by replacing parental guidance with government mandates and building mass surveillance infrastructure instead of privacy controls. Congress should reject the GUARD Act. eff.org/deeplinks/2025/11/surv

Left unchecked, company and government use of automated decision-making systems in areas such as housing, health care, law enforcement, and employment have already caused discriminatory outcomes based on protected statuses. eff.org/deeplinks/2025/11/trum

The myth that a bunch of young hackers can solve any problem was debunked by DOGE. But the larger moral stain is that this was a heist.

Cost saving was a cover story to shutdown investigations into Elon’s companies, steal government data and engage in genocide by proxy via killing USAID.

Greetings Mastodon friends

My team has started "managed data services" for non-technical companies. I.e, we deploy our Very Nerdy People to protect people from vendors and set up a sane, affordable data practice

If anyone knows a non-technical person that is running a company that might want this, I would very much appreciate being put in touch

We spread the holy word of open source and have managed to get costs below $10K per month for Real Engineering

Sorry for talking about b2b sales 💀

Thanks to all the scientists, archivists, and data hoarders mobilizing to defend against the censure of life saving medical research for using accurate descriptions of sex and gender. eff.org/deeplinks/2025/02/ddos
