Today I saw someone toot, in dismay, people are posting their everyday life to Mastodon when they could simply buy a diary for $1.99. I can't stop thinking about this.
What if this is all they have? What if they're isolated with or without people in their life? What if the only kind word they hear this week is, "That's cool"? I say, post your mundane. Post anything you want. While being silenced everywhere else, don't be silent here.

📣 Germany's close to reversing its opposition to mass surveillance & private message scanning, & backing the Chat Control bill. This could end private comms-& Signal-in the EU.

Time's short and they're counting on obscurity: please let German politicians know how horrifying their reversal would be.

A few days ago Oracle, via the media, blamed their own customers for not installing a July security update.. then when the media coverage stopped, quietly released a new security update for the actual exploited vulnerability. 🥴

Trump's former spiritual advisor just admitted to molesting girls. He pardoned J6ers. His former lawyer was disbarred. And he's a 34 time convicted felon. But you go on, Marsha.

So, something that's become clear to me is that we still have a real need for self-managing community email lists like we used to have. Many people still use Google Groups, which are horrible. The old Ezmlm and Mailman lists I used to run are now creaky and hard to maintain... I've done a bit of a look around - I implemented Listmonk, but it's not what I'm after - it's broadcast/marketing, not any subscriber to all subscribers. So I've come back to Mailman, now on v3. Integrates with Mailcow.

The "authoritarian government has begun holding dissidents without revealing their whereabouts or acknowledging their detention. Two have turned up dead."

Oh, you thought that was about Trump's DHS? Can't imagine why.

“I never thought federal officers could behave this way. I really didn’t,” she said. “I always thought people must be provoking them or something, that they would never do this unprovoked. Obviously, I was wrong.”

I used to be able to delete the advertising ID in Android, but after the latest update (16) I can't find that option. Anyone know if Google has removed that option? (Very very bad if they did...)

History lesson: the best way to stop farm consolidation is stop doing bailouts.

The solution to homelessness is not forced institutionalizations.

It’s social supports. Healthcare. Housing. Education. Harm reduction. A universal basic income.

Anyone can become homeless at any time. It’s not a personal failing.

We must fix it together.

Amazon Ring is adding facial recognition software (which somehow they didn't already have I guess?).

#Germany #law - the court I'm dealing with requires special software to communicate with them.
It's called #EGVP and there are multiple business options, every one more expensive than what I'd lose by not communicating.

Is there any #Linux software for that?

There is one web option: mjp.justiz.de/

Sadly, it requires an ID card I don't have.

Any hints?

Apple to Europe: „Your laws are bad for us, therefore we are withholding unrelated features from your citizens and do everything possible to lobby against your laws.“

Apple in the USA: „We only follow the laws and orders of our authoritarian government, there is nothing we can do against it.“

A man broke his leg during the ICE car wash raids in LA.

ICE held him in hospital under a pseudonym for 37 days.

He was under 24/7 guard after they injured him.

Hidden away. No due process.

His access to medical providers, lawyers and family was restricted and they kept him handcuffed to the bed.

His name? Bayron Rovidio Marin.

This should be a much bigger story.

Thank you Judge Cynthia Valenzuela for ordering his immediate release.
