News outlets, even propagandist ones, are not legitimate military targets.

Bombing a studio during a live broadcast will not impede Iran’s nuclear program. It’s not the work of the world’s “most moral army” and is not something the U.S. should support.

From the U.S. Press Freedom Tracker:

CNN anchor Erin Burnett was pushed by police on live TV while actively covering an immigration enforcement protest in LA on June 9:

We'll be tabling at the Positive Force 40th anniversary shows in DC this week. If you're around, come see us and celebrate 40 years of punk & hardcore activism. positiveforcedc.org/

Update: I just had to edit the description on YouTube to say that the video was originally released on PeerTube last week... because I was getting inundated with complaints ("why isn't this video on PeerTube?"). Ouf.

You know you need to go offline when you start replying to people all in caps "IT WAS ORIGINALLY RELEASED ON PEERTUBE!" 🫠

Anyway, I'm off to a screening of the film as part of the internship program Sam & Riyen were in. Excited to show it again ✨ 🚀

How to win [a higher] minimum wage
truthdig.com/articles/how-to-w

"And, although $30 an hour is the nation’s highest minimum wage, “it is still not enough for a family to live on in Los Angeles,” Gutierrez said. “It is not a living wage. One job should be enough, and it’s still not enough.” "

in his new book, "(Never Mind the Democrats) What's Left: Radical Solutions for Radical Problems", calls for a $60/hour minimum wage. I agree.

❝Over four months, LLM users consistently underperformed at neural, linguistic, and behavioral levels. These results raise concerns about the long-term educational implications of LLM reliance and underscore the need for deeper inquiry into AI's role in learning.❞

The Times can't help itself. Blatantly corrupt dealings in Trump world merely "raise ethical concerns" -- because the Times (like essentially all of Big Journalism) has normalized activity that would have had news barons demanding impeachment of any previous president.

I'm attending a sales meeting in one hour with some people from Sydney, who have said that my product is going to be a great fit at their conference.

Of course, my company does not have a product, so I mostly just want to see if they really will like, fail to Google me but allocate two staff to the call.

(Of course, maybe they have read something and the product is my consulting, but I am DUBIOUS.)

An day of epic protests in America yesterday warrants one mention now on the NY Times homepage: far down the page, about a protester's killing in Utah.

The Times has said repeatedly that its mission doesn't include saving democracy. This is only the latest evidence of its indifference.

I think it'd be pretty metal if Canada stopped Trump at the board and sends him back when he tries to get to the G7 Summit.

@GuerillaOntologist Two key pieces of information that I think are missing from this piece:

1. There are grid-following inverters, and grid-forming inverters. The latter provide inertia and recovery, but are (currently) more expensive and less common. We'll see more of them in the future, though.

2. Inverters should randomize their cutoff threshold to avoid thundering-herd-style failures such as the one posited here. (Adding jitter/noise like this is a *classic* trick to improve system dynamics.) Again, many newer inverters do this, but it will take some time to see full adoption.

Basically, as renewables becomes a substantial part of the grid mix, we need to make them first-class participants in forming a reliable grid, not just supplementary elements. And we *have* the tech to do that, it's just lagging in places.

I got this industrial-grade "here's how to have multiple cranes going at once & not fuck it up" podcast guy & he's great

Here's his episode on how immigration crackdowns are real stupid. Good for sending to friends & family who need to hear that from a Worksite Guy.

They told Minnesotans to stay home. After the murder of Speaker Hortman and her husband—and the failed attempts on Senator Hoffman and his wife—fear was the official message.

But the people came anyway. In defiance. In grief. In purpose. This was the #NoKings rally in MN. #press

I was installing a PoE camera/doorbell (locally managed via Home Assistant), which meant making a new, long ethernet run. I figured that was as good an opportunity as any to teach my son how to crimp an ethernet cable.

We know a lot of protests are planned in the so-called US today. Here is one of our favourite up to date resources for mass demos.
