“We’re the police,” members of the group are heard saying in the video.

A man is heard asking, “Why are you hiding your faces?”

Masked government thugs snatching a student off the streets without even the hint she committed any crime. This is the US today.

It takes a lot to shake me but this abduction of Rumeysa Ozturk, a Ph.D. student and Fulbright scholar at Tufts is bone-chilling.

Plainclothes, masked agents bundle her into an unmarked car.

It appears her thought crime was co-authoring op-ed in the Tufts newspaper, asking the university to take action in opposition to Israeli war crimes.

She's been whisked off from Massachusetts to Louisiana.

This is the new America.

Citizens are next.

Doctors in West Texas—where there is a measles outbreak—are seeing unvaccinated hospitalized patients with signs of vitamin A toxicity.

There is no evidence that it can prevent measles, but overuse of vitamin A can have serious health consequences.

This is a result of misinformation and is what happens when you appoint an anti-vaxxer to lead the national health agency.

Can anyone identify the original source for this brilliant illustration?

This is a kidnapping.

The word "detained" is inadequate to describe what is going on around the country these days.

I have a reader that I have worked with, located around Chicago, that I want to connect with other readers for networking reasons. I will vouch for their sanity and competence. If anyone here is down to grab coffee with them, could you drop me an email at the ol' blog address?

Trump, and authoritarians like him, want us to be afraid. Unmarked agents of the state grabbing our friends and neighbors off the street and hauling them off to prison sites is a deliberate strategy to quash dissent and stoke fear. We won't stand for it, and we will only fight back harder until everyone involved in this cruelty is thrown out of power.

India's use of immigration law to punish a Reuters journalist for investigating corporate wrongdoing may be a preview of where the U.S. is headed.

We were rather negligent last year in our fundraising efforts, so we're trying to make up for that now as our funds are running a bit low. The upside is that our procrastination on asking for contributions gave us time to switch away from PayPal 🥳

Given that the Trump regime is crooked from the top down, it should be no surprise to learn that one of Musk's Doge incels is (like his boss) shady as hell.

The government is taking dramatic steps in response to Teslas catching on fire and what's weird about this is they only care when there are *not* people in the car. If a Tesla catches on fire while it is empty that is a big deal to the government and they investigate it as terrorism and hate crimes. But if a Tesla catches on fire while people are driving it that is normal and the government sees nothing there to investigate

@fsfe are you in touch with the EU regarding the digital wallet (europarl.europa.eu/news/en/pre) already? This will/can e.g. be used for the driver license in the future?

I skimmed through the documents and didn't read anything on OpenSource/#FreeSoftware there. Would be great if we could ensure first class support for #LinuxMobile. Is that on your list? Otherwise I could at least write the contact address there.

Welp, I can report that I have managed to disassemble my venerable OnePlus 6T phone, replace the battery & find I have the wrong USB socket replacement (prob for my now obsolete 3T instead), but managed to clean the USB connector contacts, removing the need for a replacement, & reassembled it successfully. Subsequently, I (for the umpteenth time) managed to do a painless major version upgrade of LineageOS to version 22.1 (from 21.1). Amazingly, everything is functioning! Big sigh of relief.

One of the first things that I tell survivors of domestic abuse who are concerned about the safety of their devices to do is to check the security of their accounts. Techcrunch has a guide on how to do that.
