Listening to RNZ right now, hearing about Trumps insinuations about Ukraine's power plant ownership (by the US) is quite well aligned with the approach Naoim Klein described in 2007 in Shock Doctrine. I'm sharing that link only as a citation to the quote, not because I think this guy is a good archeologist. His use of the term "pre-agricultural" gives him away as the all too common type who assumes teleology in human history, and a more-or-less tidy "progression" from hunter gatherer to agriculturalist. He's also a big fan of Pinker, which is a massive tell that there's some motivated panglossian reasoning going on here.
