A new year is a time where a lot of people revisit life goals and set resolutions. If you have ever wanted to write a tech book, but weren't sure where to start, in How to Write a Tech Book I walk you through the full process from idea to post-publishing work.

In addition to hardcover, paperback, and ebook versions on Lulu, I've also recorded an audio book on Audible, voiced by professional actor David H. Lawrence XVII.

is it still possible to buy DAT players these days? I just found a bunch of old music on DAT and really want access to it.

Currently wondering if it would be possible to convince someone to pay me to put together resources on collective living.
I would really love to gather a bunch of resources and stories from a variety of collective homes on both the larger goals and the mundane details. The larger objective would be to create resources that can make starting and running a collective home easier.
I would really love to be able to be under someone's wing who has more experience with housing policy.
Basically, I just want to spend a bunch of time reading/thinking/writing/talking about the collective living and maybe also find a way to pay rent while doing that.

Without going into specific cases, of which there are many, I've noticed a pattern in our news cycle.

1. Someone says Something Crappy.
2. It resonates through our collective minds.
3. There's outrage, people take sides, interest grows, the media picks it up and amplifies it.
4. People fight over petty details, ignoring preposterous lies buried in the original statement.

We need to ask what feelings/ideas people are promoting when they say Crappy Things.

Apparently there are more non-profit employees in the US now than manufacturing workers.

Sweden begins #wolf hunt as it aims to halve endangered animal’s population - theguardian.com/environment/20 sickening start to #2025; shame on #sweden, in thrall to sadistic killers

We should make all candidates for office do this 👇 before they are allowed to run (btw, in the book, this is the paragraph immediately preceding the one in the previous post).

Reminder that elections have long been recognized as undemocratic. Sortition is real democracy. Elections guarantee you end up with narcissists in power - at least with random selection it's not guaranteed.
[Quote below from The Dawn of Everything, by Graeber and Wingrow.]

"Daily reminder that the underlying purpose of AI is to allow wealth to access skill while removing from the skilled the ability to access wealth."

I was confused why they were pushing ticketers to ignore paper tickets while they are exactly as good and static as "digital" tickets, but with the future TOTP rollout it makes sense: they want to teach people before the rollout that screenshots won't work.

#TIL there are Deutsche Bahn #tickets in development which have a #TOTP on them.

That means an imminent repeat of the #Ticketmaster fail
conduition.io/coding/ticketmas
because ofc the extra TOTP step is not really adding any security compared to a static paper ticket.

Why is this "digital" nonsense being pushed so hard?

please donate to support anarchist, abolitionist, distroist, and my dear comrade Casey Goonan as they approach their plea deal hearing in a few weeks.

Casey is also the only Palestine solidarity movement member who is facing federal felony charges currently. The so-called "student intifada" has abandoned them out of respectability politics, disdain towards anarchists, and an inability to think beyond the confines of the university. They are also one of the most principled and dedicated anarchists who had been, until their arrest, supporting multiple prisoners across the US with letters, phone calls, phone zap campaigns, money on people's commissary, and publishing people's writings. It is PAST TIME for anarchists broadly to show up for Casey.

This fundraiser is for legal fees associated with their hearings: chuffed.org/project/supportcas

If you can't donate, please boost this post.

If you are so inclined, PLEASE write to Casey. More info on how to do that here: freecaseynow.noblogs.org/write

Y’all, since I started trying to learn how to Art in the pandemic, I’ve fallen into a tradition where between the Xmas and NYE, I will let my subconscious loose on a canvas, and then I paint what my brain thinks is coming in the next year. They’ve been kinda weirdly prophetic when viewed in retrospect. I tell you that, because if I really am an incarnation of the Delphi, next year is gonna be real weird. (Also, I need detail brushes, and steady hands, and maybe a xanax.) #art #pencil #painting #sketch #surreal
(Edit because I guess I forgot how to conjugate verbs.)

Hey artists, my partner is on mastodon.art and can't see, like, 50% of the federation because her instance has blocked so many other instances.

Is there another, better, art-focused instance that she can move to? It's frustrating to both of us but obviously mostly her.

(a boost is appreciated in lieu of an actual answer, ty!)

I spent the weekend cobbling together some passable Ansible to build Tor web tunnels on six VPSes on six different international providers. I could have done manual installs, or used their existing Ansible, but I like to play with the tech.

Plus, if I can keep at least five of the systems up continuously for a year, I could get a free Onion t-shirt. Never underestimate what a geek will do for a t-shirt.

Quebec's chief forester plans to log an area equal to Romania’s size—about 20,000 Olympic pools annually. Over the past four years, we've documented the devastating impact of this policy on Nehirowisiw lands. In September, we were invited to Innu territory to witness similar destruction. Watch our latest video report.
