I guess what I'm saying the value is here, is that most of society is a grab bag of incoherent positions based on received wisdom. When you organize in situ you're forced to contend with that. You don't typically have the option of just cutting ties or of allowing the position to stand, so you end up having to untangle it with real people instead of just in the abstract.

We live under a racist neoliberal hegemony, so it's important not to discard people just because some of that sunk in.
