I've now created the ansible-community organization on @Codeberg to do exactly the same: codeberg.org/ansible-community

I'm not looking to justify my personal motives for this at this time but know that it is not meant to compete with github.com/ansible-community and does not intend to spur a migration from GitHub either.

It is meant to be a neutral, general purpose place to contribute on Ansible projects together outside of GitHub because the Ansible community exists outside of #GitHub.

Tech journalist Julia Angwin sees the light on why decentralized media -- the fediverse in particular -- can and should replace our current, corrupt centralized social media.

I fear she mistakes the obvious head fake from Meta/Threads, and the increasingly likely one from Bluesky, as making them part of the fediverse.

"To all my writer friends that use MS Word - Microsoft has turned their Al bits and bots on to automatically go through anything done via Word. Here's how to turn it off. File > Options > Trust Center > Trust Center Settings > Privacy Options > Privacy Settings > Connected Experiences"

On the Mac I found it under Word/Excel/Etc > Preferences > Privacy, and near the bottom was the checkbox for "Turn on optional connected experiences" which of course was on by default.

@kyle
Well, that's the official line at least. But as I mention in the article, I don't believe they've successfully made that case.

The machines that could have conceivably "copied" their open designs were the cheap i3 clones of years past, which didn't prevent Prusa from dominating the high-end market and having their most profitable years.

But the modern competition is unlike any open printer Prusa ever made. They didn't need to copy Prusa when they already had the more advanced design.

TIL that MLM has more than one meaning, and the one I just found out about is actually good and cool, unlike the one I knew about already. Moral Limits to Markets theory is the good one, btw.

Open hardware company Prusa is now reacting to the same commercial challenges open software companies have been struggling with for ages: what do you do when a competitor legally uses your work, but undercuts you on price?

In Prusa's case, the solution was to close up the hardware. While disappointing, I'm sure it was a really tough decision and it's more honest than some of the legal acrobatics from open core companies.

Interesting to see this: talkpython.fm/blog/posts/we-ha Others are finding that Hetzner.com offers the best commodity cloud services value. We cut our cloud hosting costs by ~95% by dropping AWS & MS Azure and switching to Hetzner. If you think: "but we depend on specific services we can't get on Hetzner!" offered AWS or MS Azure, then you, my friend, are fully locked in. I'd be questioning the governance of your organisation.

Just updated my Rustdesk server... took about 15 sec. If you're using PC Anytime or TeamViewer to provide remote support... don't. Seriously, just don't.

rustdesk.com is fully #libre / #FOSS, has clients for *every* platform, and you can run your own server trivially, so you don't need to trust anyone else.

If you're an IT support organisation and you think it's too hard to run your own service (on a $3/mo VPS)... then I must impugn the cred of your business.

So anyway, I had this idea that everyone, particularly young people, should learn what is taught in law school.

I also had the idea that the way it is taught to young people is boring.

It wasn't until law school that I realized how interesting this stuff is.

Rather delighted I am able to use beeswax from my beehives for waxing my bicycle chain, instead of PTFE-based chain lubricant (a "forever" chemical!!). Although, the paraffin it's paired with is a fossil fuels byproduct. (curious if pure beeswax would work or not.)
