As the next 'week of action' approaches in #Atlanta and people rally to continue the fight to #StopCopCity, cities across the US are planning rapid-response demonstrations if forest defenders are again repressed by police.

The new ".zip" domain is being used almost solely for malware. Some of the clicks are very deceptive, even to technically knowledgeable people. See the attached image for an example.

You can block all zip domains with the following uBlock Origin rule:

Mastodon lets you set up custom timeline filters which automatically CW or completely hide posts with a specific word or phrase.

To add a filter:

1. Log in through your server’s website
2. Go to ⚙️ Preferences > Filters (On the mobile website click ⚙️ then ☰ then Filters
3. Click Add new filter button
4. Choose the settings you want, then click Save New Filter

There are nuances to using the filters, and I've done a list of tips about them at:

Bankers behaving badly

Some of the world’s biggest energy firms want to make the credits available to companies that use fossil fuels to produce hydrogen. But environmentalists warn this would trigger a disastrous cycle in which fossil-fuel-fired power plants help firms produce dirty hydrogen that then causes dirty power plants to run more often – undercutting limits on carbon pollution proposed by the Environmental Protection Agency

"Some argue that rapidly scaling back #FossilFuel production would leave billions of pounds of “stranded assets”, [and] would impoverish the public through a fall in the value of #savings and #PensionFunds.

The study found that in high-income countries two-thirds of the financial losses would be borne by the most affluent 10%.

Just 3.5% of financial losses from #StrandedAssets would affect the poorest half of Americans & could easily be compensated for by government."

Over in the thread I started on how we might reword the Anti-Meta Pact, I've added a few of my own thoughts on server policies here: social.coop/@dynamic/110593186

Hey, #lawfedi, I have a question about DMCA Takedown Notices.

The advice I'm seeing online about how one is to write one includes indicating the URL where the "original material" "is" "online". What happens when the original material is no longer being served? That is, the infringing site is serving, without permission, copyrighted material which is not anywhere on the internet anymore, not even in the WayBack machine?

Asking for a bunch of #therapists whose old PsychToday profiles & photos were ripped off apparently years ago and are current being served by a directory site without their permission, but who have either long since taken down their PsychToday profiles or changed them so they no longer show the version of the profile that's being infringingly served.

US honeybees suffer second deadliest season on record - theguardian.com/environment/20 more awful news; most people don't understand how much we depend on bees...

This reflects my feelings.
“Titan and Adriana are two vessels recently lost at sea, four days and 4,000 miles apart. The five men who lost their lives on the Titan have been getting wall-to-wall coverage in the media worldwide. Meanwhile, the estimated 700 who died when the Adriana sank off the coast of Greece, mostly women and children, have been essentially forgotten.”

I'm laughing at memes about billionaires who can't pull themselves up to the surface by their own bootstraps, but in reality I'm furious.

I'm furious I was accused of human smuggling by FRONTEX (European border agency) for being part of a sea rescue operation that saved 1000+ lives of refugees fleeing war & terrorism.

I'm furious at the money and international effort being spent to rescue these billionaires when operations like ours cost so little and save so many lives, but are punished.

I have to repeat myself. Why isn't this on the headline of all newspapers?

The Greek shipwreck was a horrific tragedy. Yet it didn’t get the attention of the Titanic story | Arwa Mahdawi | The Guardian

Unrelated to our hardware failure, today the whole world (or maybe just some bad guys?) apparently want to access all our big repos like linux and FreeBSD source trees at once. We're currently tuning some configurations to allow better distribution of resources and keep normal queries unaffected.

It's important to note that more work is needed to improve the accessibility stack on Linux; if you want to contribute you can read the at-spi2-core developers documentation for an overview of the stack: gnome.pages.gitlab.gnome.org/a

We especially need more documentation on how ATs interpret the accessibility interfaces, and what kind of expectations should be satisfied by toolkits and apps.
