@lightweight I have dedicated a great deal of time over the last year learning more about two important social technologies that build better democratic practicies - Sociocracy 3.0 and Nonviolent Communication. (it was you mention of Sociocracy 3.0 that got me started down that path, Dave.) Both are needs centric and non-adversarilial. Both support the needs of all and are inclusive of different pov's. One intriguing ideal comming out of sociocracy is "Bottomocracy".

I think there should be a far greater societal expectation of civic action/responsibility from business leaders.

What a disgrace the "nonprofit" College Board has made of itself -- "strips down" the Advanced Placement program in African American Studies to satisfy racist critics. (AP courses are a BILLION-dollar revenue item for this outfit...)

The most depressing thing, though, is that it's these folks who are engaging with government on technology. It's pains me deeply. They're not looking at any big pictures, they're only looking at their own business interests. Which, in most cases, are trying to emulate 'big tech'.
