#SocialCoop friends, I've started a bit of a hackpad on sharing lessons from our experience for people building fediverse instances now. Want to join me in sharing our learnings?

Given recent posts, this is amazingly timely today. :-D
TrustCor CA will be removed in the upcoming release of GrapheneOS. They've been proven to engage in malicious domain squatting and have close ties to backdoored software and surveillance operations.

We won't be waiting for Google and Mozilla to act.
Reading this: https://www.rnz.co.nz/programmes/the-detail/story/2018866148/do-big-wheels-belong-on-beaches I think that people who consider '4WD' to be their hobby... need to find a more sustainable hobby.
A discussion about distributed federated systems else-network did bring up some concerning history that we should keep in mind:
#XMPP was, briefly, the dominant messaging system on the Internet. It was fully federated allowing hosting anywhere. Major extensions were being done by major companies (Apple adding voice and video for example). And it all fell apart because the three big providers (Apple, Google, Facebook) ditched it to have more control.
#mastodon (1/2)
With yesterday’s election, Illinois struck a decisive blow against the long U.S. trend to strip labor of organizing effectiveness under law in the name of a falsely-so-called ‘right to work.’ Here, the people have countered that trend and voted in an amendment to the state constitution that enshrines, rather, workers’ right to organized collective resistance and negotiation. And I was here for it. It feels good.

In the case of journalists who were put off by having been blocked for not CW'ing political posts, one thing I think that needs to be emphasized is that Mastodon is not one single community. Different instances and cross-instance social networks have different norms.
Just because one instance blocks your toots does not mean that Mastodon as a whole isn't interested in them.
France just legislated that every parking lot for 80 cars or more must be covered by solar panels
That’s 11GW of new solar (same as 10 new nuclear reactors) powering millions of home - zero new land needed

Here's some masto history
There was a period of severe #racism here on masto. And not just from the shitty nazi side.
Just a lot of white liberal "left" people who felt that they were God's Gift to Mankind.
Who knew how to walk the walk. But the moment you pushed even slightly at them. Pointed out how a statement could be read as inflammatory. Pointed out an outdated term.
They exploded. Shit the fucking bed. And then left in a huff.
It took a group of #BIPOC users getting together and agreeing to work together for a while in dealing with these "subtle" racists for anything to get done. Because, of course, these shitlords made themselves popular amongst the white population.
But, it has happened. there was a solid year of stress and daily racism at some pretty extreme levels.
but there has been a sharp decrease of racism. Not an ending, I ain't ignorant. But a step, and a big enough step that I know of several instances on here that I can reach out to whenever I feel racially targeted to help me out.
I worry about how many of those shitheads are going to sneak in with the current iteration of new users.
But it isn't hopeless. We just have to remain vigilant and reach out to our fellow BIPOC for backup.
"But what does the peer-reviewed science say about the potential of #soil #CarbonSequestration approaches? The principles behind soil carbon sequestration are sound and fairly well understood. To grasp its potential, we have to understand the depleted state of soils today. Soils are vast reservoirs of carbon: they hold three times the amount of CO, currently in the atmosphere, or almost four times the amount held in living matter. But over the last 10,000 years, agriculture and land conversion has decreased soil carbon globally by 840 gigatons, and many cultivated soils have lost 50 to 70 percent of their original organic carbon. Intensive crop cultivation can reduce soil carbon by 25 to 50 percent in just thirty to fifty years. The good news is that this can be reversed."
