RE: hachyderm.io/@rain/11744608334

This is why, when people say things like "omg the LLM can generate an embedded kernel for me!!!" I can't help but think

"Yeah, it was trained on _at least_ three of mine, plus immeasurable training load on my webserver serving the docs."

By claiming ownership of the result, or even just claiming to have managed the machine while it spit it out, you're basically just stripping all attribution for the actual work that went into its inputs. You might as well just clone my repo, remove the license, and remove my name. So no, I am not impressed.

Anyway, Anthropic just ripped off a bunch of Rain's work with no attribution, as they do.

ChatGPT now lets you target ads based on specific prompts or any phone number or email address. This is absolutely 100% going to be used for harassment.

It's also very frustrating to constantly have my opposition to AI be taken as an opposition to abstraction, or to automation, and a desire to do every little thing by hand. But it's the opposite. For a whole bunch of reasons, AI anti-abstracts. It adversarially creates oceans of duplication to process. It creates a situation where the AI user gets to set the terms of some ecosystem with synthetic productivity but then everyone else needs an AI to figure out what's going on in that new ecosystem.

No more "AI generated"; there is only "Slop generated".

I'm sitting in one of the fullest European Parliament hearings I've ever seen: it's about the infamous proposed Cloud and #AI Development Act #CADA and it's a huge "we need to build build build #datacentres", #gigafactories and farring #unicorns. And I'm like 😭

Let's see if I get speaking time. :)

Seeing the damage that "AI" is doing to the Kernel (not just in Slop code being integrated that will bite us later but in making becoming a new kernel developer even harder than it is at a time where we should really be thinking about how to fill that pipeline) is super painful.

I think that - like Wikipedia - Linux as an alternative platform for computing was one of the new wonders of the world, something that showed that a better world is possible. And we're just pissing it away because Linus doesn't want to talk to people who he needs to mentor.

"I suggest the social action: shame. Shame these people. Their actions are shameful. AI bros hate being shamed and they try to make rules against shaming — because shame works.

None of these people doing shameful things deserve a place in polite company. They should be shamed for their shameful choices.

The AI industry is also running a PR push to redefine common word usage. The word “slop” is also super effective — so the bros really hate “slop” and try to define it to mean slop they don’t like.

But all AI output is slop. It’s social spam. That’s what it’s for. It’s slop! Say “slop” every time."

RE: social.coop/@coopcloud/1174194

Join us this evening when members of Co-op Cloud give a reintroduction to the project and the community. Hope to see you in the call.

This is 21 CEST for our Central European and German followers. :)

I discussed this in my talk* on Friday: this is what makes artists unique, they can take a stance.

Your LLM won't choose to be informed and support action with regards to Palestine.

You know, it's funny. 20 years ago I started photographing abandoned buildings, as I believed they were a warning sign that America was sliding off the face of a cliff. Years later, that's pretty obvious to just about everyone that we're in freefall. Not really sure what the point of a warning is any more but I still have photos so what the hell, why not post them.

@baldur "are they now vibe-coding MacOS?" Yes, I 100% guarantee it.
