In other words, it is the job of scientists to devise experiments that can test their claims, to always be cautious about what they are claiming, and to critically evaluate the claims of other scientists. By these well-established standards, no serious science is happening behind Anthropic's claims.

I think people are overreaching a bit when they declare that if it runs on a computer, it can't be conscious.

Look, I don't think *Claude* is conscious. I think Anthropic is probably Doing a Marketing, or full of AI cultists, or both.

Maybe I'm being too pedantic here. But at some point we're going to have powerful enough hardware (and a good enough understanding of neurobiology) that you could simulate a human brain. At that point, that's conscious software. There are some truly heinous things that could happen at that point and I think it's at best silly to pretend otherwise.

Let's not allow the present stupid dystopia to cloud our much more fucked up dystopian imaginings.

Hello. I’m looking for a Canadian audiobook narrator. Voice should sound masculine and 40-ish. Specific accent is Alberta. Ideally able to do other accents as well, including Northern Irish. But the key one is Alberta. And the text will be riddled with Canadianisms and Canadian place names.

When I tried Chewy instead, I got an email saying "contact us to receive your order". I did, and they verified a bunch of info on the order, and said it should go through soon.

Probably the "brand new account orders $250 of stuff" (along with my usual privacy measures) tripped fraud detection. But at least there was a path forward to resolve it.

I just had Petsmart cancel an online order, and when I called customer service, their explanation was that my "email address was created too recently".

...there are a lot of possible explanations for that, but none of them are good.

I'm shopping elsewhere, creeps.

On September 27th members of the Second Sons, a white nationalist militia, marched on unceded Secwépemc territory carrying racist banners near a former residential school where mass graves of Indigenous children were discovered.

This action was timed to occur three days before National Truth and Reconciliation Day a flawed and limited attempt to acknowledge Canada's genocide of Indigenous peoples.

The Second Sons are tightly connected to the so-called 'Active Clubs' movement and have called to remove non-white people from Canada at gunpoint.

The Secwépemc have a long history of resistance to Canadian colonialism, including the Gustaffson Lake standoff in 1995, and more recently, the Tiny House Warrior movement, launched in resistance to the TransMountain Pipeline project.

White supremacy is inherent to settler colonialism.

Settler anarchists have a special responsibility to support Indigenous sovereignty and confront white nationalists wherever they rear their ugly heads.
