there's not many things that get me going so fast as hearing that LLMs are useful as accessibility tools.

they aren't. where they somehow work, they are at best adequate. and it's never done with accessibility as a main goal, usually just something half made-up to make the detractors shut up.

now imagine what we could have, if a promille of a promille, one-hundred-thousandth of the money put into the autoconfabulators was spent on fucking actually developing accessibility tools.

Is there a geo-data set for the European railway routes – routes not tracks, I know how to get those?

Background: I want to make an Interrail map which, among other things, shows where you can go without mandatory reservations.

I know there's a bunch of #autism / #adhd / neurospicy people on here: anyone have any experience of Auditory Processing Disorder? It's becoming more obvious to me that I'm finding it hard to understand people, particularly in busy environments or when they speak quickly, but I'm aceing all the standard hearing tests so I'm starting to wonder if I have APD. I know there's overlap between neurodivergence and APD, and while I'm not diagnosed with anything it wouldn't surprise me. OTOH it has only started becoming a problem the past few years. Any adjustments which worked for you, experiences getting diagnosed etc., would be helpful to hear. (Ha, ha)

I have long liked people's own personal blogs and websites - the indie web - but I guess that, until the increasing proliferation of slop, I had not really appreciated just how much I valued human creativity overall.

I know that the overbearing tone at the moment is that we should all be using AI, so I am most grateful to those of you who resist, and continue your own creativity.

I read recently that in societies where empathy increases, justice decreases. It puzzled me at first, but it makes sense.

Philanthropy is all about compassion and empathy – giving. But that doesn't make it fair.

In fact, often it’s another way of making sure some are benefactors and can feel great about themselves, while others are poor and crushed and have to feel permanently grateful if they get anything at all.

“AI almost starts WWIII”. No it did not. The people stupid enough to think that LLMs can be used as a reliable source of information did that. That’s like reporting “Tarot cards almost start WWIII”. Completely irresponsible framing.

Feels like Icelandic media has a clueless “AI” hype piece every single day at the moment. Their complete inability to apply any sort of criticism or scepticism to the claims is exhausting to witness.
