The story of this blog so far: 'AI', the death of web dev, and feeling like an outsider: baldurbjarnason.com/2026/the-s

It has *always* been true that - in terms of bang-for-buck - smaller dev teams are usually more productive than larger teams. Fred Brooks wrote about this in 1975.

To attribute this to "AI" betrays your lack of understanding of software development fundamentals.

A point I frequently make when talking about chatbots is that their output only seems to make sense because we are making sense of it. And worse, we can only do that sense-making by projecting a mind behind the text, something we do reflexively.

“With the backlash to data centers, Flock and AI glasses, a mass opposition to big tech is underway. Silicon Valley is in denial.”

> The resistance may be messy and inchoate, but it amounts to a direct repudiation of Silicon Valley’s core project.

It occurs to me that term Artificial Intelligence is aptly named, but perhaps not the way the tech bros think.

'Artificial' as in fake. 'Intelligence' as in information.

Fake information.

They should rename it. #AI

Instead of lowering flags to half mast for Dolly, they should reinstate vaccine mandates.

They should invest in public health.

They should walk back discriminatory LGBTQ+ policies.

They should stop banning books and fund libraries.

That’s how you honour her legacy.

4 days ago The Pentagon fired the editor in chief of Stars and Stripes.

Yesterday they broke the story of Elsie Dominguez, a civilian engineer who was raped repeatedly by the Captain of a Navy ship she was on.

A Judge ruled she needs to file a worker’s comp claim. For rape.

They keep trying to silence the press & quash the truth.

Elsie’s story must be told:

“Obviously, there are a lot of problems with a site like this, starting with its potential use by stalkers,” EFF's @evacide told @Wired; also, “the site did not seem to be good at the very thing it is claiming to do well: flag potentially dangerous partners.” wired.com/story/peoplefinders-

After publicly taunting SD Padres catching coordinator Oswaldo Pirela that he will "remain in ICE custody pending removal," ICE released him on Monday. He was reunited with his wife and two U.S.-born daughters.
