cory doctorow posting a 34 part crash out where he starts with doing a LGTM on the tao chatgpt log (it’s very impressive because he doesn’t understand it, you see) and derails into ranting about the people calling him out for using LLMs while carefully avoiding any of the actual critiques of his LLM use is, well

this is just how cognitive surrender looks, unfortunately

My wife and I have a large perennial garden that we've kept exclusively native plants (with help from state park promotions to plant native). I was delighted to see many bees and butterflies in it this year.

"The United States doesn’t offer much help to people ... who loses their job through no fault of their own can expect to collect a national average of $532 per week in unemployment insurance benefits. In most states, these benefits expire after a maximum of 26 weeks. That’s $18,800 total. And, thanks to Ronald Reagan, you pay taxes on that."

I like the idea of participating in a long #bike trip like an audax. It's not a race! It's for fun!

But then it's always: please tell us your legal name, address, and a copy of your last tax report.

Organizers, that's not fun. It's bureaucracy. You don't need a name or address to cycle. I'm out.

So yeah, it doesn't look like I'll take part in any.

I wanted to see what the Free Speech Union is up to, and I watched some of this: youtube.com/watch?v=9nibDDSRD_Q - seems to me that this Atlas Network affiliated organisation is trying to be a "Charlie Kirk"-style organisation, creating propaganda with people in public places being manipulated by someone with an agenda.

I asked an FSU member how the 'Union' is funded. He said - read their Annual Report. I searched and found fsu.nz/publications/from-stren which links to the report... which isn't there. 🤔

@luckytran Corrected headline: Cops are using school shootings as the excuse to get pepper-spraying drones they will use against protesters.

And so we find ourselves where we knew we'd end up... the Home Office using AI-generated slop (a document that doesn't;t exist) to refuse an asylum claim.

AI & its associated technologies are having clear & consequential effects, yet they no doubt will allow Home Office officials to escape censure for lying & misrepresentation;

'it was the machine what done it, M'lud'.

Court's will need to be more sceptical of HO claims from now on!

Conde Nast's online subscription services are the absolute worst I've seen. I've come to believe that it's on purpose -- to deter me from canceling.

I never, ever use apps if there is a web mobile version...Apps give corporations control over you.

I'm looking for a new job.

I've been in security for 13 years. I spent the last year at Trail of Bits doing code reviews and security assessments on desktop/web apps, kernelmode code, and firmware. I co-wrote the C/C++ testing handbook we published recently, contributing the Windows usermode and kernel sections. I've got strong hardware skills and industrial experience.

UK based but flexible on operating hours. Looking for similar work, full-time remote.

Meta/Facebook/Instagram/etc makes a deal with Newsmax to use the latter's right-wing spewings as AI training data, thereby ensuring that anyone looking for even remotely accurate output from the Ai is on a fool's errand: ir.newsmax.com/news/news-detai

An excellent bit of Big Journalism news: New York Times right-wing propagandist Douhat is departing for the Magafied CBS "News" -- nytimes.com/2026/07/28/busines

Until the Times (predictably) replaces him with another right-wing propagandist, the quality of its editorial pages will be markedly higher.

Just saw an AI scare piece published a news megacorp and realized that the author reads my blog, i.e, doesn't believe a fucking word of it

Tobi Lütke (CEO of Shopify) is a fascist.

(Have been saying this for years, but finally the mask is completely off; especially when considering the "let's just kill brown people and ethnical cleanse Europe" posts of his best buddy and Shopify board member DHH.)
