Today, the #MAGA cadre at #CNBC are suggesting to wealthy billionaires and "over taxed" millionaires that moving to Florida is the only option to avoid paying #tax because poor people get a tax holiday in Democratic Party proposals. Take a moment to understand that level of greed and resentment towards the poor and people in need of services due to disabilities.
#Comcast charlatans are in a sinking barrel.

Finally, LAUTI has it's own fediverse account! 👋 Up until now, we used @klasse_methode@chaos.social to post about LAUTI, but we think it deserves it's own account. And we hope you think so too. 😀

We're glad that our friends from @Bonfire provided us with an account on their server. And it makes total sense, as we work closely with them on different projects, one of them being the tight integration of LAUTI events into Bonfire.

For all who don't know LAUTI yet: LAUTI - Open Source Community Calendar provides communities with a sovereign platform to share their events. Fediverse integration is in the making. For more check lauti.org

I feel like there is a real desire for better tech out there.

The reason I am saying this is that I would never have expected that this little side project that is technically-good.ca/ would draw this much engagement - and I don't mean the quick-hit types of engagement, like likes and boosts.

I mean *real people* writing in with questions, comments, concerns. Creatives saying how an article really resonated with them, folks asking how they can help their friend group migrate to a less shitty platform, many others.

And I'm just running a tiny blog that's been up for only a few months!

I am very encouraged by these responses. We have momentum right now and it feels like something is shifting.

If you have a blog, post content critical of AI and the established algorithmic platforms, or provide tips for using alternatives - KEEP IT UP. ✊🏼Even if you think you are just one small person. Change is happening!

What I think about so called genAI: LLMs, stable diffusion, you name it, is what pretty much everyone on Fedi thinks:
- it doesn't work
- its outputs are tiresome, unreadable, unwatchable, unreviewable
- it is unethical

But, in fields where people are expected to be rational, like IT and academia, many if not most seem enamored with it.

So, who of us is in a bubble?

This is a long shot, but is there anyone here who is signed up for marketing emails by leatherspa.com? Did you see this illustration get used in late January or early February?

My invoice has not been paid for illustration/design work I did in January and I am being ghosted by the design contractor for it. I am gathering information before I pursue other options.

Those who keep complaining that wind turbines do not work when the winds are not blowing, just realized that oil does not work when the Hormuz Strait is not open.

In case you need to hear is, burnout is a structural outcome, not a personal failure. It’s OK to stop. 🫂

well, here's a wacky one. My 32GB Lenovo went back for a warranty repair in January. I finally noticed this last night - no wonder I've been running out of memory.

Chatting to the live service, their records say it's a 16GB machine, mate!

It was certainly 32GB when I got it, and I even have the syslog of installation in Nov 2024 saying it's got 32GB.

Anyone else had Lenovo try to pull something similar?

also, they don't and *can't* email you the chat logs. Odd as they're material to the case. I'll be GDPRing those I think.

Looks from here like the Trump regime is hoping Iran will provide a Reichstag fire-type event (look it up) in the U.S. -- see those scary warnings of attacks on California.

Why? A pretext to escalate domestic fascism, such as even more direct interference with this year's elections.

The whole "AI" industry is just based on the hope that they can deskill people fast enough that they'll have to rent back cognitive support systems. Forever.

It's like Uber. Just that they don't try to break existing transportation infrastructures but your brain.

“What should be happening is if police have good reason to suspect your camera caught evidence of a crime, they should go to a judge and they should get a warrant," EFF’s Matthew Guraiglia told KDKA. cbsnews.com/pittsburgh/news/ne

@benedictc @Gargron imagine the cost of the subscription if all of those companies worked with real money and had to turn a profit from the start.

Imagine that they had to pay real copyright fees for all the content used in training the models.

Imagine that any of the illegal uses of the training data and the people that died using their products had meaningful consequences in court.

Imagine that they had to pay the full tax, the full price of the services that they use.

Generational memes are so stupid that I always want to block anyone that posts one.

resurgence of #measles is a grim sign of what’s coming - arstechnica.com/science/2026/0 "People who recover from measles can experience complications such as pneumonia, which can lead to death, or encephalitis, which can later lead to deafness or intellectual disabilities from the brain swelling.
