I NEED TO SAY SOMETHING
Bobby Sands went 66 days before he died
Heba Muraisi is on day 65 without food
(6th Jan)
One of her simple requests is to be returned to HMP Bronzefield, where she can be closer to her family
For no good reason, this has been denied time and again
a note about the nextcloud paper:
some asshole who values fandom over security has tried to tell me I’m spreading misinformation about nextcloud because they claim the vulnerabilities in the Share with Care paper have been acknowledged and fixed by the project.
surprise, that’s misinformation. the lesser vulnerabilities in the paper, the Ghost Key Attack (chapter 5.2) and IV reuse (5.3) have been fixed.
the key insertion attack (5.1) which renders e2e a no-op has not been fixed.
@hipsterelectron again exactly! nextcloud’s marketing around their encryption is extensive, to the point where hosts like hetzner are building hosted nextcloud products around the promise of e2e. but then you dig in and shit like that nothing of a PR and a mess of an end-to-end encryption repo and fixes quietly scattered across repos with no announcements is all you get. and then I get someone in my replies telling me I’m acting in bad faith for thinking all of this is weird and unworkable
I like to use a 'linear calendar' (there must be a more canonical name for this format) to plan out my year on paper. There are a few ready-made PDFs floating around, but I was unsatisfied with them all so I made my own. Customise and print it here: https://elvery.net/linear-calendar-generator/
I recommend printing at A3 if you have the tools.
The woman who showed full on allyship and dropped 3 different white nazi sites as a causal flex at the end of her talk is on Fedi, and you guys aren’t hyping her up enough for me.

The author of a viral Reddit thread alleging fraud at a food delivery company tried to back up his claim by sending me AI-generated documents. Today I'm publishing those documents in the hopes that it helps other reporter see what we're up against in the age of AI https://www.platformer.news/fake-uber-eats-whisleblower-hoax-debunked/
Thanks to @newbyte's efforts and @agx's reviewing, everything relevant from the "postmarketOS tweaks" app has been integrated into Phosh Mobile Settings so that we were able to sunset the legacy app in postmarketOS edge and have one less settings app in total! 🎉
As a bonus, Phosh Mobile Settings now has a generic conf-tweaks interface that can be used to add other custom settings with config files as well!
Details in the edge post:

When we design for disabilities, we make things better for everyone. This is called the Curb-Cut Effect. The term was coined by disability students and activists in the 70s, who added curb cuts to the Berkeley sidewalks to make access easier for those in wheelchairs. They discovered those also helped people with strollers, using trolleys for deliveries, etc.
Hi @anothersubculture glad to see you here!
There’s a reason DHS and its counterparts keep getting humiliated in court when they pretend to be victims. They’re losing in front of juries and judges are calling them not credible.
It’s important not to normalize this absurd language from DHS — their “sounds like” doesn’t mask their intent.

In 2026, I want folks to note how often the media just replays opinions of people in power, instead of offering social, economic, and historical context for ANY issue.
Apparently, the role of reporting is the amplification of opinions, to maintain the illusion that everything happens randomly, in environments devoid of history.
I was so naive. I thought the role of reporting was to keep the public informed.
But no, it is to keep the public confused and obsessed with debating opinions.

'Sup nerds, if you live in Canberra, I've become a preferred recruiter for Vivanti, and they've agreed to have me provide them with senior-to-principal engineering candidates (especially in data).
The company seems snazzy, well-compensated, and they've got some of my readers working there (which probably says a lot).
If you're keen or know someone who is, shoot me a DM. I have, importantly, gotten permission to bypass the CV/application/online screening nonsense.
Services are operational again and performance has recovered.
We conclude that the problem originated from three factors: We deleted a lot of large abusive content recently. Automated snapshot trimming started today and deleted more data than usual. This in turn resulted in a high I/O load on our last remaining HDD that consequently brought down a host and some Ceph services (MDS), bringing performance to a near-halt for a while.
The problem with watermarking images as AI generated (whether visually or via metadata) is not all images will be watermarked given old phones, homebrew AI models, screenshots, edits, etc.
This fosters a risky expectation that unlabeled content is authentic. It’s safer to assume unmarked images are AI than to trust that the absence of a watermark proves reality.

“Trump said it was up to others to decide what U.S.-military action in Venezuela means for Greenland. “They are going to have to view it themselves. I really don’t know. He was very generous to me, Marco, yesterday,” Trump said. “You know, I wasn’t referring to Greenland at that time. But we do need Greenland, absolutely. We need it for defense.””
Trump is attacking #NATO. No one should have any misconceptions that he will stop at Latin America.
