StackOverflow having AI chat features is a harbinger of the fall of StackOverflow. Those of us who still want a community-based site where we help our friends and colleagues will now have to go somewhere else now.

Last week Trump called Tim Walz the ‘R slur’.

He then doubled down on it, and now his base have begun harassing the entire Walz family.

Memes are circulating on socials encouraging people to drive past their house and yell it at them.

I’ve been personally called that word more than 1,000 times in the last seven days.

We can’t allow this to happen. The disability community has fought far too hard for far too long to remove that word from the public vernacular.

This is ableism at it’s most ugly, and ableism feeds eugenics and eugenics feeds fascism.

Help us fight back. We are not expendable.

To your last point, in this case I don't think calling it something else would have helped. This isn't a case of legit computer vision or other machine learning techniques being u fairly maligned, this seems to be "jam a plagiarism-based LLM into something just for the buzzword", which is a major specific "ai" usecase that pisses people off.

A good search algorithm would have been a good feature.

A legitimate recommendation engine would have been a good feature.

An LLM is not it.

I've tried Claude Code twice in the past month and cannot reconcile the insane results people are reporting with its actual performance.

It's superhuman at specific things (my ability to join two CSVs is capped by my typing speed), but anything that's much more complex than that starts to get into weird territory where I'm typing so much English that it might have been less tiring to simply write the code.
