ICE-style raids on Britain’s streets: that’s all Labour’s brutal asylum reforms will achieve - theguardian.com/commentisfree/ #labour really thinks we want that?

Asylum seekers’ jewellery could be seized to pay for processing costs, says Home Office minister - theguardian.com/uk-news/2025/n every day we get closer to Terry Gilliam's "#Brazil", where we must pay for our own interrogation and torturing...

This is a cry for help.

Has anybody on Fedi put OpenStack Swift behind an nginx reverse proxy successfully before?

All the docs seem to suggest it should “just work” but I get 401s on preflight checks to upload media through the reverse proxy, and it works fine direct. I’m forwarding the X-Real-IP etc and swift is recognising that.

My next step is to just futz around with the proxy forward headers in the hope that something will help, but I can’t find any docs to actually address this situation. It’s weird.

Also this is a legacy system running an old version from 2014, so that might contribute. The goal is to have the up-to-date nginx RP doing SSL termination so as to change as little as possible of the config in this legacy mess.

N'arrêtons jamais de parler de la Palestine.

Never stop talking about Palestine

Of course, you will be able to find us in and around the event, not just the stand! In case you didn't know, there are a series of other events that will take place as part of the FOSDEM Fringe (fosdem.org/2026/fringe/).

With that being said, if you have any suggestions as to where we should/could go when we're not running our stand, we are all ears (as long as we don't grow too tired). :)

Together with @forgejo, we will have a presence at #FOSDEM 2026! (Thanks @fosdem!)

FOSDEM will take place in Brussels between 2026-01-31 and 2026-02-01—it is the largest European conference on free and open-source software and the admission is free (as in beer).

Just like last year's FOSDEM, we will be running a stand, exchanging stickers and having delightful conversations. If you find anyone wearing a badge of either project's logo, feel free to say hi. :D

As Anthropic grapples this development in the most convenient method possible, I’m sure a number of business leaders will gladly pay for the weapon that Anthropic made that is the cause of the problem in the first place. Their position is unethical and irresponsible.

The GUARD Act may look like a child-safety bill, but in practice it’s an age-gating mandate that could impose a mass censorship and surveillance regime on nearly every public-facing AI chatbot. Tell Congress to oppose the GUARD Act today. eff.org/deeplinks/2025/11/surv

We just don't realize HOW MUCH of our economy is farms & farm workers- because they're "out of sight, out of mind."

So for context, here are some jobs that hire fewer people than farm work!

-secretaries
-software developers
-factory workers
-restaurant cooks
-construction workers
-elementary school teachers
-security guards
-restaurant managers
-day care workers
-carpenters
-lawyers
-electricians
-car repair guys
-bartenders
-police officers
-fast food cooks
--IT managers
-nurses
-hairdressers

The Trump administration DOES cave to pressure. Especially when "here's how this hurts US workers" can be brought to bear.

The logic behind cutting the H2A minimum wage was "Farmers can't afford to pay it."

If that were true, H2A hiring wouldn't be exploding like this.

Trump just cut farm workers' wages $1-3/hr, and there IS something we can do about it.

#Electronics question: how do amplify <100mV voltages?

I simulated a simple op-amp circuit. It does what I want, with a gain of 15.
But the voltages on +/- inputs differ by 9 mV. And that's about the input offset voltage of a real #opamp ...

Is that going to work reliably on a real opamp?

And how do I estimate noise in DC situations?
