Stop telling me about Kagi. I'm not going to use it.

1. They pay Brave, that makes me feel icky for a lot of reasons that you probably already have opinions about (not interested in debating and will not respond).
2. They make a big stink about "no politics", which is a red flag if you ask me (particularly in light of their "humanizing search" claims).
3. Pushing so-called AI nonsense
4. Argued *against* providing mental health resources in response to certain queries.

Hard pass, muting now.

It is an unacceptable state of affairs that giving all of your information, and your kid’s, to a single monopolistic data broker, College Board, is required in order for kids to apply for college and university.

This is an entity that has demonstrated that they aren’t trustworthy, and has harmed millions of young people.

Health insurance premiums are going through the roof, so try these alternatives. gocomics.com/brian-mcfadden/20

Can I be real with y’all for a minute? I hate the term “content” as applied to art, culture, etc, created online. It feels like the term itself is used to create in our minds the prejudice that A) delivery of content must be separate, and B) that the artist shouldn’t bother with how delivery occurs.

It feels to me like the term is meant to hide the centralization of control by monopolists and robber-barons while the works of art, culture, and innovation are beholden to the delivery providers like YouTube, TikTok, and Meta.

In my new article "The rebellion will be federated – 2025 edition" I discuss the key role of the Fediverse in this political and cultural climate... and argue that digital sovereignty and the ability to self-host are now more important than ever:

Plus I had a chance to look back at my Fediverse advocacy in 2025 😊

Psst: my Ghost blog is now federated thanks to @jannis and his amazing @hey 🥳 🪄 📄

Happy Armistice Day, friends. We should all celebrate the end of war and have such a reverence for peace that war itself is blasphemy.

This is your periodic reminder that if you think the Democratic Party needs younger and more progressive leaders, there’s no reason that one of those leaders can’t be you.

I don't understand how
the people who want to protect their own sensitive information from corporations in order to stay safe and not become victims are deemed paranoid,

But the corporations demanding
to verify our identity asking for our legal name, gender, sex, date of birth, email, phone number, home address, location, IP address, MAC address, list of apps, purchase history, access to contacts, device model, official ID, passport, birth certificate, fingerprints, facial scan, palm scan, iris scan, preferred sleeping side, and underwear color are not? 🤨

The Democrats who engineered and/or voted for the odious shutdown deal are even more cowardly and reckless than anyone could have imagined. See this:

I'm sad to say that I am in need of financial support again.

My weekly work hours at my day job will be reduced soon, leaving me with less money than I already have, and I am looking for a second job and a few helping hands.

If you have enjoyed my work on Ubuntu Touch over the years, please consider donating via PayPal or Liberapay. I only hope for donations for the short term, long term I want to be able to stand on my own again. Links over at fredl.me

The U.S. military is being used inside the United States. There's a lot we don't know about how, why, and under what authorities.

Today, Lawfare is launching a new project–which includes a tracker and a map–to follow where and how the military is being domestically deployed. lawfaremedia.org/projects-seri

Sometimes it feels like eSIMs are a scam to cause more customer service interactions where my mobile carrier can try to upsell me.

Someone told me to use Kada.ai for data governance. I go to look. There's no price listed, which usually means "Go away if you don't have enterprise money".

I try to look up "Kada.ai pricing" on a whim, and to my surprise there are two pricing pages. They're both filled with lorem ipsum text.

One of my colleagues says it must be AI-generated. Even I'm like "No, people make mistakes"

Turns out to be from something called Webflow, 100% AI generated, this is how AI nerds engineer I guess
