I'm sad to say that I am in need of financial support again.

My weekly work hours at my day job will be reduced soon, leaving me with less money than I already have, and I am looking for a second job and a few helping hands.

If you have enjoyed my work on Ubuntu Touch over the years, please consider donating via PayPal or Liberapay. I only hope for donations for the short term, long term I want to be able to stand on my own again. Links over at fredl.me

The U.S. military is being used inside the United States. There's a lot we don't know about how, why, and under what authorities.

Today, Lawfare is launching a new project–which includes a tracker and a map–to follow where and how the military is being domestically deployed. lawfaremedia.org/projects-seri

Sometimes it feels like eSIMs are a scam to cause more customer service interactions where my mobile carrier can try to upsell me.

Someone told me to use Kada.ai for data governance. I go to look. There's no price listed, which usually means "Go away if you don't have enterprise money".

I try to look up "Kada.ai pricing" on a whim, and to my surprise there are two pricing pages. They're both filled with lorem ipsum text.

One of my colleagues says it must be AI-generated. Even I'm like "No, people make mistakes"

Turns out to be from something called Webflow, 100% AI generated, this is how AI nerds engineer I guess

EU Commission internal draft would wreck core principles of the #GDPR - noyb.eu/en/eu-commission-about "remote access to personal data on PCs or smart phones without consent of the user would be enabled." #EU wrecking its greatest legislative achievement

It’s been well over a decade since subMedia crossed the Atlantic. A lot has changed since then. There’s been some rather enormous political developments. Not to mention a veritable glut of riots, uprisings and other moments of insurrectionary rupture. And we’ve been busy distilling this high-octane footage into a refined, uncut, revolutionary analysis, ideal for projecting on the walls of finer squats and social spaces. So we’re thrilled to announce that this November and December, as civilization continues to explode in a fiery spectacular shitstorm, the subMedia crew will be once again returning to the European subcontinent – to connect with rad people and organizations; learn about rad spaces and projects; host rad screenings and workshops; and burn that circle-A shit into our host’s eye-holes. We’ll be coming equipped with some classics from the vault, and reels from our newest documentary series InterRebellium. And to make things even sweeter, we’ll be joined on the first leg of the tour by one of our favourite anarchist rappers, Lee Reed. We don’t get over to Europe often. And fuck knows what things will look like in another 10-15 years. So please spread word. Restock the popcorn. We hope to see you there!

More posts to come with event details OR find them at sub.media/transatlantic-tour/

Government and law enforcement have demonstrated that they are willing to use every tool available to spy on protesters, people seeking abortions, immigrants, and many others. That’s why we need to fight surveillance where it matters most: our local communities. takebackctrl.org/stop-surveill

Self-hosting is a fun way to cut big tech platforms out of your life, but if the cops come knocking you need to know how to defend the privacy of you and your users. eff.org/deeplinks/2025/06/how-

I suppose GUI apps are more susceptible to churn, but I think this take on the keepassxc/llm debacle sounds about right. Software projects that are "finished" and require reduced maintenance should be the goal. Do password managers really need new features delivered in rapid succession? Why?

Tonight Democrats proved that old quip.

If a genie gave Democrats 3 wishes, they'd negotiate it down to 1, and then wish for something they think Republicans will like.

We need a true opposition party now more than ever. Because this aint it.

The key weakness in AI agents is that they're a lie. They don't work. They just don't fuckin' work. You can't set a hallucination engine to work doing tasks. It's pants on head stupid. The hype pretends this isn't the case and hypothesises a fabulous future where they work *at all*. This is a lie.

A useful model for "AI agents" is that they're the current excuse meme for AI. They're not a thing that works at all, now or in the fabulous future. But they're *such* good material for hypecrafting. No sausage at all, but *my god* that sizzle.

@millerebonds @postmarketOS@treehouse.systems @postmarketos@lemmy.ml @linmob We should all appreciate the fact that @agx / Purism developed Phosh not only for their products, but for the whole ecosystem. I feel and appreciate the effort to make it working fine on other phones than the Librem 😍

Good morning Fedi friends!

I have a special request for people near Milan, Italy:

I've been on a mission to help @LisaBanana find a green plushie for her child from the #BalloonMuseum temporary exhibit. Original story here: eldritch.cafe/@LisaBanana/1153

They had plushies when I went but in the wrong color 😭

Do you know anyone who could help find it?

Technically one could go straight to the gift shop (without attending the exhibit) but it's a lot of fun - for kids and adults alike

2 weeks, 6 repos touched.

If this goes through, #mobile #Linux on-screen keyboards get some nice features on #Wayland:

gitlab.freedesktop.org/wayland

Reference implementations available. Looking for more implementors so we can make this catch on. Anyone?

Thanks @nlnet for the motivation!

I don't know what the Senate is going to do. But if they do in fact fold in exchange for nothing, they will be living up to past performance. To expect the Senate to carry out the will of the American people is to misunderstand why it was created in the first place.

Trump has sold thousands of pardons, each worth up to two million dollars. Trevor Milton, a fraudster who deceived numerous investors, will not be required to repay them because he purchased a pardon from Trump. If Epstein was alive Trump would sell him a pardon. medium.com/@carmitage/the-pard #uspol #trump

The right wing's bad faith brigades saw a photo that they wanted to believe mocked Charlie Kirk's murder. It didn't, but they didn't care, and they've done enormous damage to countless people who have no recourse. Pure scumbaggery, and standard operating procedure.
