Guess what! Today marks the 10th anniversary of the first #PeerTube commit! 🥳🎂

It's hard to believe that a project started by a student is now used by so many people and organizations around the world… 🤯

Thank you so much for your support over the years! 🥰

Indiana University ordered its student-run newspaper to cease all print publication Oct. 15, less than one day after the administration fired the student newspaper’s adviser.

Our university published an AI chat bot that gives guidance on how to apply for funding from the Academy of Finland.

When it gives wrong information, it's the responsibility of the applicants who were mislead and whose applications were rejected.

I don't understand how a university would want to sabotage their chances of funding like this.

This is a valuable lesson for any manufacturer: never awaken the nerd sleeping inside your customer, because his wrath shall be terrible.

In this case the warning was quite literal.

The company annoyed a buyer enough to push him into full blown nerd mode. He tore the product apart, reverse engineered every part, and then published a step by step guide showing exactly how to disable "kill switch" that prevented the use of the product without the vendor spying on the user.

What started as a minor grievance became a public, technical exposé that left the maker exposed and embarrassed.

Moral of the story: underestimate your users at your own peril.

#Google trips over its own words, when they sell you #Android it's the best computing device in the world that does everything. After you bought it Google doesn't let you do anything *you* want to.

#Sideload is a made-up term. Putting software on your computer is simply called “installing”, regardless of whether that computer is in your pocket or on your desk.

What Do You Talk About When You Talk About Sideloading?

What does Google?

“If they want to eat they should get a job!”

“My taxes shouldn’t pay for people who aren’t productive”

“It’s their fault they’re hungry”

My latest is about the ‘useless eater’ rhetoric that has dominated social media ever since news broke that SNAP wouldn’t be funded in November.

People are blaming individuals for what is clearly a society wide failure.

Wealth inequality coupled with rising prices and falling wages mean millions rely on food assistance to survive.

In three days, 42 million Americans will be without food. They will start to starve.

No one deserves this.

President Trump pardoned Binance founder and former CEO Changpeng Zhao. Despite a damning indictment suggesting CZ played an active role in directing his firm to break the law, the president has portrayed Zhao as a victim of a Biden “war on crypto”.

Trump admits CZ’s pardon followed lobbying efforts by CZ and Binance. He hasn’t addressed that it also followed Binance’s $2 billion stablecoin deal tied to his family’s crypto ventures, which has already produced tens of millions in profits for his USD1 token.

For the record, I'm pretty sure that no one should care what Bill Gates thinks. He's missed/misjudged every single technological and social leap in the past 30 years. I'm amazed he's made any money at all, but I guess that's what multi-million $ trust funds and a willingness to ruthlessly exploit ill-gotten monopolies will get you.

Great news: Today, we have managed to distribute our Forgejo instance across two servers. A main instance still handles most traffic, but requests from #CodebergPages are now handled by another server. Going forward, we'll try to route more read-only traffic there to distribute the load.

This is an important milestone, because such a setup was never tested with #Forgejo at this scale.

This should improve availability of both Codeberg.org and Codeberg Pages.

"Just go to a food bank, a church or a charity"

For every meal the food bank provides, the SNAP program provides 9.

Even if donations are rapidly scaled up, they won't be able to meet the needs of 42 million Americans who are about to go hungry.

It's not sustainable.
