Good morning Fedi friends!

I'm writing a guide about how to install the #YunoHost self-hosting system... from the POV of a newbie.

I did so last December and it was the most empowering thing. I'm now the admin of my own GoToSocial, Pixelfed, PeerTube and NextCloud instances.

I'd love your input: which app should I feature / install in my guide?

Hah - interesting that this was considered newsworthy: rnz.co.nz/news/national/576752 during the ongoing windstorm that's knocked out power to many folks. He's got almost the same car model we do (same colour, different battery).

Largest study of its kind shows AI assistants misrepresent news content 45% of the time – regardless of language or territory. An intensive international study was coordinated by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and led by the BBC.

Not at all shocking. We all know about fake news. But what about fake news that isn't made for human consumption, but rather for digestion solely by LLMs, and designed to influence how they represent the news to others? Newsguard had a report about just such a Russia-based network earlier this year.

Sea otters were nearly hunted into extinction a century ago for their luxurious pelts.

But they have been surging in population in the Gulf of Alaska, bringing both benefits to nearshore ecosystems and drawbacks to the shellfish economy.

Described by commercial shellfish harvesters and Native Alaskans as pillagers of clams and crabs, sea otters are seen by many marine biologists as having positive impacts on kelp forests.

When you ask ChatGPT a question, you're in control of the information you're sharing, EFF’s Lena Cohen told USA Today, but “when you're using the Atlas browser for day-to-day tasks, it's easier to forget that all of your activity could be sent to OpenAI."

I think I'm going to stop boosting all Bluesky bridged accounts.

The authors want the audience of the fediverse but don't want to engage. That seems disrespectful to me.

I get that we all have only so much time, however. Still, a Bluesky-bridged account imo is a zombie account in my opinion.

Due to a misreading of the entire movie, they're digging for the medbed that cured the President and made him a better person that was featured in the motion picture "Dave."

“The extensive data collection in the Atlas browser could be a privacy nightmare for users,” EFF’s Lena Cohen told the Washington Post. washingtonpost.com/technology/

A DHS warrant seeking ChatGPT user prompts “means it’s more important than ever for OpenAI and other AI companies to think about how to limit the amount of data they collect on their users,” EFF’s Jennifer Lynch told Forbes.

ICE isn’t the secret police, and the private detention centers it contracts with to hold tens of thousands of people — including journalists it arrests — shouldn’t be off-limits to FOIA requests.

Use our action center to tell your member of Congress: FOIA should apply to private facilities.
