The UK government saying "delete old emails" to save water. 🤦‍♂️

Most emails average about 50k of storage even for someone who gets a lot of attachments, and will have exactly zero effect on data center consumption.

"Don't use cryptocurrency" and "don't use generative AI" would of course be thousands of times more effective.

my statement on Ai from the mini-comic I'm making as syllabus for a new class I'm teaching this fall. It's simple, but I pretty much said all I have to say on it - it robs you of decisions and struggle - and the joy of being surprised. It robs you of learning...

About the "antisemitism" discourse at universities

@bagder The frontend removed all commits that were made before `Sun Sep 9 03:46:40 AM CEST 2001`, it's fixed in codeberg.org/forgejo/forgejo/p

The backend did count correctly to 19369, so Forgejo does better a better job than GitHub in that aspect.

Like I needed another reason to fanboy on Pedro Pascal. Din Djarin? Joel Miller?

Earlier this year he posted about trans rights on social media. Trolls showed up in his comments, and he decided to get up in there and troll them back. Zero fucks on his replies.

This is what allyship looks like. We love to see it.

Trump regime is eviscerating labor rights, and Trump's judges are offering their slobbering approval to what what is clearly against the law.

(I'm still waiting for Big Journalism to wake the hell up to the impending dictatorship.)

I've read some stuff from the GitHub CEO which seemed kinda smooth-brained, and evidence seems to continue to point in this direction.

Cell-site simulators (CSS, also known as Stingrays or IMSI catchers) are devices that masquerade as legitimate cell-phone towers, tricking phones within a certain radius into connecting to the device rather than a tower. Our tool, Rayhunter, can help you find them. eff.org/deeplinks/2025/03/meet

Indiana's police “buffer” law was just struck down.

Hopefully Tennessee's and Louisiana's will be next, and legislatures in other states will think twice before passing unconstitutional laws that prohibit journalists and the public from watching and recording police up close.

The LAPD's brutal attack on independent journalists on Friday night is an attack on everyone's right to know.

The LAPD must be held accountable.

@davidgerard

Yeah, the latent libertarian notions in open source culture are severely under-critiqued. It's cousin to the ideological strain the birthed all these tech cultist silicon valley dipshits.

I want municipal data centers that we all pay taxes for and are able to use for services we develop that benefit our community and which provide us the means to create large scale alternatives to private tech monopolies. I don't want libertarian tech, give me democratic community tech.

Solder warriors, how do you protect your etched boards from corrosion?

I bought this one a lifetime ago. Clearly homemade. It's covered with rosin.

I thought rosin was corrosive to the traces.

What technique is this? What kind of rosin is used here?

Absolutely jaw-dropping talk by Micah Lee on the blinding national-security incompetence at the highest levels of the Trump regime.

If this had been any Democratic govt, Fox "News" and the entire right-wing media gang would make it the top story for weeks, if not months.
