NZPol and te reo Māori in reading books

Indiana's police “buffer” law was just struck down.

Hopefully Tennessee's and Louisiana's will be next, and legislatures in other states will think twice before passing unconstitutional laws that prohibit journalists and the public from watching and recording police up close.

The LAPD's brutal attack on independent journalists on Friday night is an attack on everyone's right to know.

The LAPD must be held accountable.

Yeah, the latent libertarian notions in open source culture are severely under-critiqued. It's cousin to the ideological strain the birthed all these tech cultist silicon valley dipshits.

I want municipal data centers that we all pay taxes for and are able to use for services we develop that benefit our community and which provide us the means to create large scale alternatives to private tech monopolies. I don't want libertarian tech, give me democratic community tech.

Solder warriors, how do you protect your etched boards from corrosion?

I bought this one a lifetime ago. Clearly homemade. It's covered with rosin.

I thought rosin was corrosive to the traces.

What technique is this? What kind of rosin is used here?

Absolutely jaw-dropping talk by Micah Lee on the blinding national-security incompetence at the highest levels of the Trump regime.

If this had been any Democratic govt, Fox "News" and the entire right-wing media gang would make it the top story for weeks, if not months.

Finally, a journalism organization covers Trump family corruption (almost) the right way.

This excellent reporting shows that -- as of now -- the most corrupt president in history and his family are $3.4 billion more wealth since he took office, and escalating fast.

Militarizing DC isn’t about crime. It’s not about making the city safer.

It’s about eliminating the people they don’t want. Homeless people. Black & brown people. The “others”.

You’re far closer to becoming homeless than you realize. It can happen in an instant.

They need & deserve our support.

" GitHub’s strength has always been its role as a facilitator of decentralized, community-driven software creation. Its next chapter will test whether that ethos can survive inside the engine room of one of the world’s largest AI factories."

Microsoft + GitHub = Microsoft.

I continue to be amazed that anyone uses Amazon AWS, or Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Services. Only someone who's very happy to completely lock their business into a 3rd party proprietary stack they don't control, and loves paying 20x (2000%!) more than reasonable commodity infrastructure rates would do so. I'm amazed that these businesses are even viable. Just goes to show how much flab most corporations have. They're ripe for disruption and displacement.

We, the operators of this social media account, sometimes face dilemmas about what we want to post. For example: "Are you a Hubber and want to become a Berger? We're looking forward to you!"

Love it or hate it, one thing is certain: It doesn't really matter, because others are doing our marketing today. 🙃

#Codeberg #GiveUpGitHub #GitHub

For those fretting about Microsoft's inevitable further enshittification of the already shit Github, I can report (having ditched it the day Microsoft announced its acquisition) that Forgejo (forgejo.org - the #libre forge underlying Codeberg) is very easy to host and is superb to use. It's a few minute's work to migrate your code away from Github once & for all. Let Microsoft Github slump into the comprehensive ethics-free bitrot it's committed to without dragging you down with it.

Online code repositories

My mistrust towards #Github just passed a tipping point, as its CEO resigned (yes, it had been acquired by #Microsoft a while ago, but it was still allowed to operate as its own company) and Nadella announced that he won't be replaced.

Instead, Github will be swallowed by the CoreAI department at Microsoft.

Which means that the largest (by far) storage of open source code is officially going to become just another piece towards Microsoft's plans for AI supremacy.

#Trump is losing his foolish trade war. This will cost ordinary Americans greatly - theguardian.com/commentisfree/ "As a result of Trump’s tariff craze, the average effective tariff rate on imports into the US will be 18%, up from 2.3% last year – the highest level since the infamous Smoot-Hawley #tariffs of 1930 worsened the Great Depression."

Two weeks ago, CPJ reported on Anas Al-Sharif getting threats from the IDF to cease reporting. He didn’t, and now he’s dead.

He’s not the only journalist getting threats from the IDF. We partnered with @theintercept to document this horrific practice.

Sorry the country died. We had to pay for a dipshit army to stick their thumbs in ill-fitting tacticool vests and stand around with their mouths hanging open.
