My background is in #AI and ML, even though I’m not working on it directly now.

One of the reasons is that I’m utterly disgusted by the kind of people who have taken over this field.

These are the same kind of sociopath cynical anarcho-capitalist cryptobros who screwed up the few good ideas about Blockchain and transformed it into just another speculative financial instrument.

And you know why I hate them from the bottom of my heart, why I believe that they have negative added value for society?

Because the previous generations of computer engineers, those who gave us the digital computer, modern operating systems and the Internet, would NEVER get a boner thinking of how many jobs they would have replaced. They didn’t repeat all the times “this will make all employees redundant so I can keep all the money for myself, it’s so beautiful!”

No, their focus was just on building things that improved society.

Not on creating chatbots that consumed as much energy as a country, and dreaming about how long it’d take them to kick people out of jobs and screw their lives.

And they don’t even bother to think on how to prepare anybody for the transition, or how to build a sustainable post-employment world.

No, the only mission of these filthy motherfuckers is to make them and their shareholders disgustingly rich. Millions losing their jobs in the process is just a small collateral effect in the way of their wealth.

These are parasites screwing up one great idea after another just because they need a next-big-thing wagon to jump on and get rich. They are literally reversed Midas who turn whatever they touch into shit.

This kind of people would belong to a psychiatric hospital in a functioning society, but unfortunately in today’s ultracapitalist world they are seen as technological gods - and even inspire new generations of tech enthusiasts to be jerks.

Non disabled people can’t fathom what it’s like to wake up every day sick & in pain

To know that things aren’t getting “better”

You can’t “try harder” you’re way out of it

We live with things that would send most running for the hospital & we do it while facing intense ableism and discrimination

It’s exhausting. It’s why we fight. It’s why advocacy is so important.

This is horrifying and blatant misogyny and discrimination.

A woman in Tennessee was denied prenatal care because she wasn’t married.

The doctor said it went against their “Christian values”

This in a so called “pro life” state which has enacted an abortion ban as well.

It was never about life, it’s always been about control.

They want people procreating, but they want it to be those they deem the “right” people.

The Christian, white, married people.

Tennessee has the worst maternal mortality in the country.

What a shocker.

One of the most revolutionary things you can do right now is demand we feed the hungry, house the homeless, provide healthcare to all and tax the rich.

This is not radical.

It’s not unattainable.

It’s what we owe one another and it is easily doable if we have the political will.

A 15 year old child was thrown in Alligator Alcatraz.

A concentration camp designed to apparently house the worst and most dangerous criminals was where they put a defenceless kid.

Homeland Security is also sending threatening letters to unaccompanied minors telling them if they don’t leave, they will be found and locked up.

They’re targeting children. The elderly. The disabled.

They have no bottom. No morals. No red line.

They must be stopped.

Take a long hard look at this graphic, the longest continuous direct measurement of atmospheric carbon dioxide. This is the famous Keeling Curve from the station atop Mauna Loa, Hawaii.
Trump and the GOP are closing the observatory.

It hasn't been many years since racists felt mostly obliged to keep their ugly views quiet.

The Trump era has completely reversed that. Now -- with Dear Leader in the front of the parade -- they flaunt their racism, and threaten people who refuse to be bigots.

Is anyone here on #fiber #internet ?
Did you get a device from your #ISP ?

...is it running #Linux ?

I just realized I can't fnd any sources to the #Telekom Glasfaser Modem on the internet. Did no one ever request the #code under the GPL?

The device is powerful enough to use as a VPN endpoint. #openWRT deserves it!

An 82 year old with a valid green card has been disappeared to Guatamala.

Luis Leon came to the US in 1987.

He sought asylum from political persecution in Chile.

He’s been in the US almost 40 years.

He lost his wallet (and green card) in June & when he went to replace it he was disappeared by ICE

What followed for his family is the stuff of nightmares.

They couldn’t find him. Couldn’t talk to him. Couldn’t get him a lawyer.

This was a senior citizen who did absolutely nothing wrong.

Who hasn’t lost their wallet at some point?

On July 9th the family were informed he had died.

They were consumed with grief and still had no information about what happened to him.

Mercifully it turns out that information was a mistake, and Leon was instead being held in Guatemala.

Why Guatemala? No one knows.

Was it a mistake? Was it punishment?

This is what happens when you move fast and break things.

Someone who was granted political asylum should never have to fear being deported to a foreign country. This shouldn’t even need to be said.

He has multiple health issues and his current condition is unknown.

Family is flying to Guatemala to see him

This should never happen. People need to keep speaking out.

Leon did everything the “right” way and still got disappeared.

The cruelty seems to be the point

Many years ago I needed an emergency hysterectomy due to extreme and uncontrollable blood loss.

I spent five days in the hospital and was discharged despite obvious complications.

My surgeon had a vacation planned and wanted me gone.

I had to go to the ER four separate times to be taken seriously, and the fourth trip required a man to advocate on my behalf.

The result? A huge internal bleed and infected abscess that required a second surgery and a month long hospital stay.

The bill? $0.

Because it was in Canada.

This is why I say healthcare is a basic human right.

The way I was treated was appalling, but let’s not pretend that patients don’t face similar barriers and misdiagnoses every day all around the world.

We should not have to suffer financial ruin because we got sick.

We shouldn’t fear bankruptcy because a doctor or hospital delayed our care.

Healthcare is a basic human right.

The free press is a threat to fascism. They will attempt to silence dissidents at all costs.

Some are silenced by their organizations like CBS and Colbert.

Some are silenced by being arrested like the two journalists in Cincinnati.

Some are shot with “less lethal ammunition” like the British and Australian journalists who covered the LA protests.

Some are thrown in ICE detention despite having a work visa and a valid path to citizenship.

Mario Guevara was arrested June 14th and is being held at the Folkston ICE detention centre.

He faces deportation to El Salvador.

He’s committed no crimes and spent his days covering ICE raids and deportations.

This is clearly retaliation for speaking out.

Once they attack the press, things fall apart quickly.

Speak up for Mario Guevara. Speak up for all the journalists trying to do the right thing.

CBC should hire Stephen Colbert and give him the late show slot and call it Radio Free Colbert. That would be fun.

Hmm - as a frequent advocate for #Matrix and #Element, this is food for thought: マリウス.com/giving-up-on-element- Sigh. Seems that very few things in the world are as good as they seem, and many things are far less good (especially things built & run by corporations).

The measure of a community is how well we protect the minority, weak, and needy.

We may not be bothered by something but if it puts others at risk it is a legitimate concern.

One of my oldest friends ghosted me when I went public with my chronic illness.

They wanted the “old me”.

They wanted me to hide it better.

Two days ago they reached out to say they’re now disabled & worried they won’t be able to keep their job.

They asked for my help

They said they didn’t realize how bad it was.

They lamented the lack of support.

Said they’re hiding it as best as they can but it’s exhausting and wearing them down.

You know what they didn’t say? Sorry.

This is the case all too often for those of us who advocate for disability awareness and chronic illness.

We’re shunned. Ignored. Abandoned.

Treated as a nuisance and told to “try harder”

Our pleas for solidarity go unheard.

The only time people pay attention is when it happens to them, and by that point it’s too late.

We can’t give you your health back. We can’t transport you back in time to take the advice we gave you to maintain your health. We can’t make it so you won’t deal with discrimination

All we can do now is help you reach a point of acceptance.

Help you dismantle your own internalized ableism and build a new existence in a world that will now turn its back on you just as you turned your back on us.

And we do this with compassion and kindness despite the way we’ve been treated.

We show up for you even when you wouldn’t show up for us.

Please, consider saying sorry.

Consider acknowledging the way you treated us. It would mean a lot.

Andre Hernandez-Romero is the gay make up artist who was kidnapped and disappeared into the supermax El Salvador prison CECOT.

Why was he sent there? Because of his tattoos.

He came to the US legally in 2024. He sought and was granted asylum because he was trying to escape anti-LGBTQ+ violence and political persecution in Venezuela

He should have been starting a new life in the US. Enjoying the “freedom” to be who he is and love who he wants.

Instead he’s been locked in a prison in a foreign country because of an ICE mistake.

It’s the definition of cruel and unusual punishment

Today The Hill announced a prisoner exchange. The US has secured the release of 10 US citizens held in Venezuela in exchange for returning more than 250 Venezuelan men being held in the El Salvador prison

Hernandez Romero is one of them.

This young man who fled Venezuela because it wasn’t safe for him, has now spent months trying to survive a foreign supermax prison only to be swapped like a chess piece and sent back to the country he fled in the first place.

Keep saying his name. Speak out. He needs and deserves protection.

Abolish ICE.
