Given that the Trump regime is crooked from the top down, it should be no surprise to learn that one of Musk's Doge incels is (like his boss) shady as hell.

The government is taking dramatic steps in response to Teslas catching on fire and what's weird about this is they only care when there are *not* people in the car. If a Tesla catches on fire while it is empty that is a big deal to the government and they investigate it as terrorism and hate crimes. But if a Tesla catches on fire while people are driving it that is normal and the government sees nothing there to investigate

The AI bots that desperately need OSS for code training, are now slowly killing OSS by overloading every site.

The curl website is now at 77TB/month, or 8GB every five minutes.

@fsfe are you in touch with the EU regarding the digital wallet (europarl.europa.eu/news/en/pre) already? This will/can e.g. be used for the driver license in the future?

I skimmed through the documents and didn't read anything on OpenSource/#FreeSoftware there. Would be great if we could ensure first class support for #LinuxMobile. Is that on your list? Otherwise I could at least write the contact address there.

Welp, I can report that I have managed to disassemble my venerable OnePlus 6T phone, replace the battery & find I have the wrong USB socket replacement (prob for my now obsolete 3T instead), but managed to clean the USB connector contacts, removing the need for a replacement, & reassembled it successfully. Subsequently, I (for the umpteenth time) managed to do a painless major version upgrade of LineageOS to version 22.1 (from 21.1). Amazingly, everything is functioning! Big sigh of relief.

One of the first things that I tell survivors of domestic abuse who are concerned about the safety of their devices to do is to check the security of their accounts. Techcrunch has a guide on how to do that.

I installed Docker on a laptop so I could use #Immich, because #Nextcloud Photos is slow and keeps getting my IP addy softbanned from my new non-US shared hosting.

I was nervous.

But it was very easy.

It pulled Immich!!

I added my first folders of images... It was FAST! AND IT'S PRETTY!!

Hurrah!

Please note, this stuff didn't exist when I was a youngling and I am not a coder.

@pjf thankyou so much for mentioning it a little while back. I didn't realise Docker was so easy.

Next to get everything off of #GooglePhotos, get my phone sending everything to Immich, and learn & make backups of all on a Raspberry Pi!

Some senators want to play chicken with Big Tech by advancing a bill to eliminate the critical free speech protections of Section 230. But Big Tech could absorb the changes to the law. It’s startups, small platforms, and everyday users who would be crushed. eff.org/deeplinks/2025/03/230-

Clay Blackburn—poet, book scout, and detective—roams Berkeley with a soldier of fortune, a “defrocked” FBI agent, and a charming con man. Between crime-solving and bisexual escapades, he chronicles the Bay Area’s radical bohemia and Berkeley’s decline from countercultural haven to neoliberal battleground. moar proof that #CoopCloud isn't vaporware

KolliCloud is built on top of our config commons, making use of abra and alakazam (command-line tools) to provision and manage free software stacks for associations 🎉

which is a rebrand of https://kollicloud.de
initiated by https://local-it.org (CC fedi member)

yes, a regional fire department in germany was using a software running on the co-op cloud stack: https://kollicloud.de/ueber/

(i'm nagging people involved to do a blogpost and share more about what is going on cus it's just wildly inspirational shit imho)

Next time someone asks me "why don't we just have the AI write the software" I will ask them "why don't we just have the AI do the management?" or "why don't we have the AI do product management?" or "why can't the AI be the CEO?"

Just had an invitation email to a genuine, legitimate, important conference with these in its header image, and seriously people if you can't afford to pay artists stock photos exist. You don't need to burn through a small lake to generate the bastard bodyhorror lovechildren of Geiger and HP Lovecraft.

yeah making students pay for product they want them to use later down the line is utter bullshit. Even with a "Student Discount".

I have used Scribus for the local car club newsletters and it was great.
