#Israel attacks hospital in northern #Gaza, leaving bodies lying in streets, director says - theguardian.com/world/2024/dec "Head of Kamal Adwan hospital says ‘large number’ of dead left by Israeli attack; Israel denies targeting medical complex" so normal, people don't even notice it now... #genocide

in all the coverage of the woolworths strike — which is partly about opposition to the company's new "efficiency" staff monitoring system — i'm not seeing enough people crediting the guardian's Ariel Bogle for her investigation which was the first media coverage of the system and its issues

Please read this 2014 plea by a very rich guy to his fellow very rich people to help rebuild, not wreck, what's left of the middle class.

Turns out the 'falling sales' of electric cars in the UK were wishful thinking.
November sales: battery electric vehicles +51% year-on-year; petrol/gasoline -35%.

#opengl is like:

let's throw a bunch of global variables around and call it a state machine.

#gles 2.0 is the following circle of hell.

I had a bug in my OpenGL and I knew immediately what it was. I'm scared of what I had become.

If you use #Codeberg for your #Git hosting, which other services you rely on can you recommend further?

For instance, we appreciate the service by #LetsEncrypt for our TLS certificates and @Anoxinon for our Mastodon instance.

If journalists have to fact-check everything "AI" spits out, wouldn't it be simpler -- and less time consuming -- to do the research in the first place?

Or is the point saving time and labor (i.e. money) and screw the consequences?

(That second question was rhetorical.)

So does everyone now admit that "Obamacare" was an inadequate solution to the healthcare crisis? Just checking.

The Fedora Project is looking for a new git forge to move to, and right now the preference is toward @forgejo over GitLab. We're looking for feedback one more time from the community before the Fedora Council has a vote on it!

Neat tool that a friend has been working on: experience.arcgis.com/experien

Quoting from the top: “The Transportation Community (TC) Explorer provides data to help all communities understand how they experience different types of transportation disadvantage.”

Basically, it's an interactive map where you can see areas that are disadvantaged, particularly in terms of transport.

Given the likely winds of political change, I'd recommend checking this one out soon…

Fellow programmers,
if you create a #software that gives #people on the ground an excuse to stop dealing with me

- because I don't have a phone number
- because I won't give you my shoe size
- because my name has a non-English accent
- because you know people aren't going to fight you in court
- for any other nonessential reason

then please stop coding and think whether your software improves the world or makes it worse.

Don't make #bureaucracy less flexible.

Kudos to legal eagle Harry Litman for bagging his LA Times op-ed post on the principle that he can't lend his support to a billionaire who kowtows to Trump.

But he jumped to the odious Substack, which Trumpist billionaires funded and which helps extremists monetize their hate.

Anti-kudo for that.

The #Forgejo monthly update was published ✨ It is a high level overview of the project activities.

A security audit and internal preparations have lead to unprecedented security releases for Forgejo and the Forgejo Actions runner. The migration to a new k8s cluster has made huge progress and is now powering the Forgejo-specific services in production. Improvements have been made to the performance and stability of Forgejo as well as to the automated testing process.

@lightweight @ernie One thing we can glean without any doubt is that the Linux Foundation has little to no interest in *desktop* Linux.

It's incredible to me that there are still some people on social media posting fawning pictures thanking Joe & Jill when these are actual headlines:

If you cannot adjust / tune your appraisals based on new data, please, stop posting.
