Does anyone know how to increase #audio #cache size in #mpv ?

I have:

mpv somafm.com/defcon130.pls --cache-secs=60 --demuxer-max-bytes=4M

and the cache stays around 16s/600KB, meaning the radio stream often cuts out :/

As people may have noticed, we've had some issues with GitLab (repository, issues, merge requests, and documentation are all affected), and the admins have decided to move up the migration day to December 4, 2024:

Ideally, this should bring us back to a stable environment. Stay tuned for more information next week.

"Most Americans live paycheck to paycheck, and many have no emergency savings—they are one crisis from homelessness. A job loss or an unexpected illness and they are where I am. They are on edge, driving bigger and faster and louder cars—a society speeding along as it disintegrates."

I released a new version of my GPS app Satellite (and its sister app Geobug). The release features a renewed UI with the latest gizmos from GTK4 and libadwaita. Get it from flathub or direct from git.

Happy tracking!

Your mention of Kansas has reminded me of the talk I saw earlier this year by Lucas Besire, the author of _Running Out: In Search of Water on the High Plains_ (found a review here: #^https://www.nationalparkstraveler.org/2021/08/review-running-out-search-water-high-plains).

I haven't read the book, but based on the talk, Besire really pushes back against stereotypical narratives about farms in the U.S., including that Kansas farmers are all conservative and... white.  There's other stuff in there too about masculinity and his relationship with his father, which is evidently a lot of the appeal of the book for farmers from that region.

A lot of what he talked about in his lecture was the complicated power dynamics between tenant farmers---who often would be very ready to collaborate with their neighbors to manage the aquifer---and absentee landlords who tend to buy into a "tragedy of the commons" narrative and insist that the farmers pump aggressively.

E-ink is pretty cool, but I'm really just waiting on one to figure out that actually the unlit LCD displays were a nice feature that no one should have ever done away with.  Crap like this feels like a nice illustration of how no, actually capitalism does not do a good job of satisfying human needs.

I would be declined to despair that such a technology will ever emerge again, but I also never thought that manufacturers would go back to making smartphones that are small enough to fit in a pocket and operate on-handed, which I'm suddenly seeing everywhere again.  Almost makes me want a smart phone.  Almost.

Dominion Power claims that Virginians’ power usage keeps climbing, so they need to build new power plants that we’ll all pay for with rate hikes. Forced to release internal records, it turns out that the only increase is coming from building data centers.

Why should Virginians subsidize Amazon, whose budget is 7x Virginia’s? virginiamercury.com/2024/11/26

I really want to do more with #APL but there's no Libre flavor I know that runs on the #GPU .

#Futhark comes close, but not quite APL syntax and loading data into it is a pain.

Anyone?

X's legal filing in the InfoWars bankruptcy case is both batshit crazy and also what you'd expect. It asserts that X owns every account, can do whatever it wants with them, and can inject itself into legal proceedings that have nothing to do with it.

This is why it's incredibly important that people invest in platforms that they own, and move toward federated/decentralized/portable, noncorporate social media as rapidly as possible

Google doesn't just strip-mine value from the web. It's actively working to diminish the web's usefulness in the process.
