BREAKING: U.S. phone giant AT&T confirmed Friday it will notify millions of consumers about a fresh data breach that allowed cybercriminals to steal the phone and text records of "nearly all" of its customers, a company spokesperson told TechCrunch.

AT&T confirmed the breach was linked to a data theft at cloud data giant Snowflake. AT&T said the data breach affects at least 110 million AT&T customers.

I really like this manifesto/pep talk from Movement Voter Project.

I like how it shifts the framing toward *us* and *our* power, not just the people at the top of the ballot, whether or not they do or should get replaced. Smart way to think about the election and avert hopelessness

Now thinking about creating a movement to promote "hobbit software". Pretty chill, keeps to itself, tends to its databases, hangs out with other hobbit software at the pub, broadly unbothered by the scheming of the wizards and the orcs, oblivious to the rise and fall of software empires around them.

Oh, the Electron empire is going to war with the Reacts? Sounds ghastly, sorry to hear that. Me and the lads are off to the pub to run some cronjobs, wanna come along?

I'm thinking of migrating blog platforms. Folks like Ed Zitron have suggested something that at least tells me how many UNIQUE views I get, and the ability to have a subscribe button that isn't miniscule/hidden at the bottom of the page would be amazing.

Other aesthetic stuff is nice, but I've done fine with boring HTML.

Unfortunately, I can't find anything that has Mataroa's respect for privacy, and self-hosting isn't preferred given traffic volume. Any suggestions from Mastodon friends?

Musk is inviting his red-state pals to prosecute people who dare advise advertisers to stay away from his toxic swamp.

This is what right-wing extremists like Musk actually think about free speech. (They hate it when it's directed, unfavorably, at them.)

Is there a list of current deadbird site advertisers? I want to stay current on businesses to avoid in my shopping.

Did you know 501(c)(3) tax exempt organizations are not allowed to engage in political activities, but Heritage Foundation (organization behind Trump's Project 2025) does and knows they shouldn't?

I just used the money formerly used to subscribe to The NYT and WaPo to subscribe to ProPublica, The Philadelphia Inquirer and the LA Times.

I doubt a single journalist, if put before the snarling White House press corps, would pass the absolute-perfection-in-diction test they're now demanding from Biden -- and routinely don't care about when it comes from word-salad Trump.

Such hypocrisy.

Microsoft is suspending email and skype accounts of Palestinians who call home to Gaza. Multiple Palestinians mention buying Skype credits in order to make international calls home. But when they used those credits to call family in Gaza their entire decades old Skype and hotmail accounts were suspended.

If Democrats don't get behind AOC's articles of impeachment for Thomas and Alito, even if it can't succeed, then they are profoundly unserious about addressing the corruption of this court.

Giving up is not a strategy.

The fact that NASA operates an official youtube account that doesn't also provide direct download links for all videos, and isn't mirrored anywhere non-proprietary should be illegal.

I shouldn't have to make money for google in order to view NASA content. I shouldn't have to subject myself to youtube DRM in order to watch NASA content. I should be able to download any video NASA produces, since NASA can't own a copyright on them.

Biden’s refusal to step aside is a microcosm of an entire civilization at an impasse. We all know that industrial capitalism is accelerating climate change along with mass extinctions and ecological collapse, but we keep delegating our agency to representatives who answer to the corporations and don’t give a damn about us. We know that entrusting our future to a ruling class that consists of some of the most self-serving people on the planet is not going to make us safe, but we keep voting for them and working for them and buying their wares. We know that burying our heads in the sand is not going to work out for us, but we’re terrified by the prospect of having to recognize ourselves as the ones who must bring about change through our own actions.

Pass it around.
