@fleeky Literally we can't settle space - as a technical matter - until we develop technology that is substantially more advanced than what would be needed to permanently and definitively resolve the climate emergency.

We are *so far* from being able to settle space. It's possible that we could send a few people to Mars or establish a small Moon base, both scientifically useless and horribly dangerous, at a cost that would exceed the cost of resolving the climate emergency.

For those of us who live in safety, it's easy to focus on the negative aspects of the internet and social media, and easy to forget the positive. Think of the most positive experience you've had on or as a result of digital communications.

Maybe it's a late night text exchange when you're feeling down. Or exchanging emails to coordinate lunch plans.

Then think about what it would mean for you if your access to that technology was controlled by someone who wanted to control or hurt you.

To everyone who thinks it's important to regulate young people's access to the internet:

Whatever policy or technological fix you imagine is the right solution, please---I am begging you---*please* carefully think through what the implications will be for a teenager experiencing active physical abuse at home.

My million dollar idea I want someone to steal and do, so I can be a customer.

"Dumb Stuff" we sell electronic appliances that aren't Internet connected. That's all.

That's it. That's the pitch. I would buy the <bleep> out of this company if their electronic gadgets were even half way decent, and repairable.

Electronic, no wifi, regular screws to open it up. That's it. Do those three things, and you can be sold by this store.

I will pay this business to curate and find these devices for me.

Florida’s surgeon general is lying to an elderly population about an entirely fictional and ungrounded “DNA contamination” risk from mRNA COVID vaccines. This will lead to unnecessary and preventable death, especially in a state that skews older. He’s a menace, and DeSantis needs to fire him (but of course, he won’t). nytimes.com/2024/01/03/health/
