Interoperable Europe Act: Committee of the Regions fails to substantially promote #FreeSoftware - fsfe.org/news/2023/news-202305 well, that's extremely stupid

Because recently some folks at Codeberg mistake their "Freedom of Speech" for the opportunity to insult other users on our platform:

Codeberg is a place to create content, not to disturb each other. We do not want to see discrimination of any kind.

Please report these cases to abuse@codeberg.org via email, or (new!) mention "@moderation" in the Codeberg Issue to quickly notify us of a conversation we should look for.

“Liberation: From Theory to Practice,” we delve into the intricate concept of liberation, tracing its roots across diverse religious, political, and social contexts. Our discussion is further enriched by spotlighting the book, published by @pmpress, “Surviving the Future: Abolitionist Queer Strategies,”

Georgia GOP Chair is a flat-earther and says we are being brainwashed by "globes everywhere" - boingboing.net/2023/05/24/geor how is it possible for people to be so stupid?

A chuckle from Borowitz satire:

"DeSantis Hopes to Seem Like Normal Person by Appearing Next to Elon Musk"

"According to an aide, the campaign considered a shortlist of other foils, including Mickey Rourke, Dennis Rodman, and Ginni Thomas."

The CEO of the company that absurdly calls itself OpenAI -- it's about as open as Fort Knox -- is campaining for government regulation of AI. The appropriate reaction is: Oh, sure.

The only transparent thing about "Open"AI is its desire to be protected from competition. Captive regulation (there's rarely any other kind) has that effect.

Yes, Google Analytics is free.

Free, as in you are a 🐖 in a shed, being fed 🌽 to become 🥓

Use Matomo, or for all I care a log analyzer, for your analytics.

Tag Manager is horrible and introduces a lot of security issues, so GTM is bad, okay?

A group of "Scared Scientists" has created a website. Here is what one of them has to say...

STATEMENT:

IPCC predicts that the impacts of climate change will be catastrophic. This affects everybody. Nobody is safe. We're going to lose low-lying countries, there will be a loss of livestock, potential widespread famine, and species extinction.

One thing people need to remember is that scientists are the biggest skeptics on Earth. We're constantly trying to disprove each other. This is the one thing we agree on. The evidence is endless. We're not making this up, this is really serious, we're very concerned, and there's not enough being done about it. We really need to be pushing our governments. Let's not look back and regret what we've done.

Tech speakers, it's 2023. Stop using moms as your example of a non-technical audience. It's wrong, its not funny, and whatever you were saying, now most of your audience is not thinking about it.

Just use the exec team as an example instead and get on with your life.

@maarteuh
It's funny, folks worry a lot more about the feelings of the folks with power over them than the folks without it.

I say this because I think that if we took a more holistic approach, many of the world's mass social (and commercial!) movements would've been nipped in the bud far sooner by peer pressure.

This is why I'm unapologetic about calling out people who, for example, opt to work for/on behalf of rapacious corporations (or gov'ts/militaries) who screw customers/users/competitors (citizens/residents) daily.

We don't, however, judge harshly (or even negatively) those entities who act unjustly in lesser ways (but which still lead to suffering/loss of autonomy|dignity) even if their behaviour affects millions or even billions of people. How do we reconcile our, in my opinion, irrational judgement & negative perception of those who do serious harm to the few, vs. those who harm the masses but to a somewhat lesser extent? 2/2

Point to ponder... we quite rightly judge harshly anyone (individuals/institutions/gov'ts/corporations) who acts unjustly/cruelly to others, e.g. depriving them of life, safety, bodily autonomy, dignity or other human rights/freedoms, largely depending on the severity of those offences, even if only against a few people. 1/2 #DogWalkingThought

Journalists who would not consider putting their work on the Murdoch family's Fox "News" are still supporting Musk at Twitter.

That's why it's (sadly) easy to predict that they'll keep right on supporting Twitter after DeSantis "announces" his presidential candidacy in a team event with Musk.
